Plateaux
Hi everyone!
I'm a newbie and I just want to ask everyone who's done this longer - when did you plateau (if you did at all)? By that I mean, after how many pounds lost? And how do I prevent/get off a plateau when I eventually get there?
Thanks in advance! :)
Sufficient unto the day is the evil therein.
Since you are just starting, I wouldn't worry about a plateau until it happens, if it happens.
I have lost more than 70 pounds this year, and haven't had any plateaux that lasted longer than 10 days, which doesn't count. Since I still have more than 60 pounds left, I may have some in the future, but I refuse to worry about potential problems.
I think that the faster you lose weight, or the more dramatically you change your diet, the more likely it is that you will experience a plateau at some point. They also seem most common in people who are already at a healthy BMI, but want to slim down to a lowish BMI.
Set a rational eating and exercise plan, and you will gradually slim down, and be healthy along the way. Think of improving your lifestyle rather than "dieting" and all will be well.

ROFL! That's a new one!
I seem to be seconding you all the time!
chris: welcome to CC. search 'plateau' in forums and you'll see lots and lots of posts about it. gnashing of teeth type stuff. ;)
I plateaued when I got to the mid-range of a healthy BMI - think my body was trying to tell me something. I had lost 27 pounds and it took about 4 months.
I have heard that some people plateau after losing about 10 % of their weight, but dkenworthy is right - not every body plateaus the same, and don't worry about it if you are just starting. You may worry for nothing.
If it happens, you can find plenty of advice here.
Hi! After losing 10 pounds I plateau and stayed there for about 4 months. The funny thing is that one day I got food poisoning and broke my plateau. I would suggest not to worry about something that is not happening yet. Stick to your exercise routine ( if you planned one according to your own needs) , enjoy your journey losing weight. write what you eat, you can also buy fitness videos at www. collagevideo.com. and it will recomend you videos according to your needs.

So you can keep track of what you eat - which enables you to analyze your foods and receive the following:
