My body type is leaning towards mesomorph and in the past i found it easy to put on and lose weight therefore maintaining my weight and this was with the same exercise routine but eating what i wanted (which is close to my binge w/e calorie intakes now)

In the past week i have put on 2lbs taking me back up to my starting weight of 9st which i was at two months ago. is it possible to have put on muscle instead of fat? i personally feel i havnt been exercising enough but i dont know!!

could any of you please shed some light on what i am doing wrong, my body seems to be gaining at the rate of knots. Plus I know what your all going to say and thats 'your binging too much' but tbh im not actually eating that much considering im probably underestimating my calorie expenditure as i am walking and moving all the time at the w/e but dont really log little things like that.

sorry for the long essay but i really need some advice!! = btw im 20yo, 5ft3. 126 lbs.

Well you are already a very trim girl.  Loosing weight when you are this light is going to be very hard.  You could try bumping up your exercise or decreasing your calorie intake a little bit more.  What is your goal weight?  If you goal is is too extreme you might never get there, your body will fight it tooth and nail.

Sorry I don't have any other advice except for weight lifting.  That has changed my body shape completely.

I would up your exercise and decrease your calories in order to get a bigger deficit.  What are you looking to lose?  How much?

I could have mistyped into my calculator, but when I added up your deficits and surpluses, I got that you basically came to a 0 deficit. Two pounds can be a normal fluctuation, and assuming I did the math right, you are essentially maintaining.

And as agana said, you are already at a good weight, so maybe lifting would help improve the look of your body without changing the number on the scale.

I would also think the 2lbs is a normal fluctuation, "back" to true weight after being somewhat dehydrated, or up from "true" weight due to fluid retention. One week isn't long enough to see a trend.

And contrary to others, I'd encourage you to aim for a very small deficit if you want to lose a few lbs, not more than 200-300, while making regular exercise a part of your routine. The closer you are to your "ideal weight," (which your body determines, not your head), the harder it is to lose. A small, consistent deficit means you get to lose a few more lbs very slowly. Add some weights to your routine to get some muscle definition, and you'll look a bit slimmer and trimmer without losing much. that's a win/win if you ask me. it isn't the number on the scale, remember.

As amethystgirl noted, your total calorie deficit over the two week period is only about 200 calories, not even close to the 3500 needed to lose 1 pound.  The apparent gain is probably just a little water retention (or something still in the bowel).

From your log, it looks like you burn about 1800 cals/day on average.  Maybe try keeping your intake closer to 1500 cals/day more consistently rather than going from 1200 one day to 2200 the next.  It should at least let you get more of a consistent deficit.

Good luck

Thank you all for your advice, in response

I feel my normal weight is 8st 8lbs as i have been this weight all throughout my teens. I gained 2 lbs after a massive splurge over xmas..went on a crash diet of like 600 cals a day for two weeks, decided it wasnt working came off the diet but started my new healthy but supervised eating regime in which i put on a further 4lbs!! in the first week and maintaining 9st for about two months to date.

I kinda understand my body did this because before it was used to so few calories but i cant understand why with extra exercise and kinda watching what i eat (which i didnt do before) i havnt lost even a lb!! normally i wouldnt need to try this hard!

tbh i know this might sound weird but im not really looking to tone up, my thighs and stomach are muscle alone and my arms have good muscle distribution. its really around my arse and hips that i can actually pinpoint where the excess fat has developed!!

during the two months when trying to lose apart from last w/e i have been running sat and sun and sometimes during the week for about 30 mins which i never used to do and nothing is happening!!!

i am sorry to go on but i just wondered if you had any insight into what i could do to break this cycle.

thanks again to everyone who replied.

Hi Mary,

I am also 5'3 and 127 lbs. I find that it is extremely difficult to loose weight. I have lost a total of 60 lbs. I find now at this weight the best thing is to tone your body and change it through weight lifting not weight loss. But I do share in your frustration of wanting to loose the last couple pounds. I would love to be 120 lbs. But I think that where I am is where I am going to stay. Don't give up, aim for a better lifestyle not weight loss. Good food and good workouts!

Mary,

Water is very heavy, this weight fluctuation is a normal part of water hydration and dehydration. Also be happy with your body. Celebrate it the way it is, you are a beautiful slim girl!

Nancy

Mary123123... you said "I feel my normal weight is 8st 8lbs as I have been this weight all throughout my teens."

The thing is - you're not a teenager anymore, you're a woman and women are meant to have hips, a butt and boobs. Embrace them! You're BMI is in the healthy range too. What is more, you're a young woman and you might still fill out more, it is natural.

I concur with what mkculs said: your body determines your ideal weight, not your brain. Furthermore, maybe you binge a little too much? Just an idea but it's bad for your body to be so up and down. Be more steady.

Best of luck x

Amen!  I was complaining about gaining weight since highschool the other day too.  My mom gave me this exact answer and the light went on in my head.

Drink a lot, and for at least a few hours, you won't worry about it.
