I know I didn't get all my calories in today -1043,but I tried, this is my first day. One calculator said I needed 1550 calories and another with the same information typed in said I needed 1250. I don't know which one to use and I know I shouldn't be eating lower than 1200 each day. Another thing too I didn't get all my water in. How about the sodium intake,I think its too high. Thanks in advance for all help. I need it!
Another way to figure out the correct calorie level for you is to use the CC burn meter tool first. If you determine how much you burn, then you can take 250 to 1000 from that to get your intake level. This will get you a 1/2 pound to 2 pound a week loss. It's best to go slowly and it's important not to drop your calorie level too low.
If you can increase your calories, you would be able to add more complex carbs from whole grains and starchy vegetables, and fruits. That would also boost your fiber level, which is too low.
I suggest reading the Ask Mary section under the Advice tab. She has so much great information. Also read her articles under Experts and Q&A. Really good stuff! Here's a helpful example of the kind of information you'll find there

i try to aim for 30% healthy fats, 15% protien, and 55% carbs.
that's what my dietition suggested for me. since i'm a teen she also suggested 3 servings of low/non-fat dairy (for calcium).
The minimum amount of sodium you need per day for your body to function is 250-500mg, so you're below the minimum. You can have up to 2400mg, so you might want to increase your salt a bit. Also, your fiber is really low. What's your 20% other? Is it something with fiber and/or salt?
Thanks all for the advice. I am trying sooo hard. I also have Reflux(gerd)so I have to watch what I eat. My doctor told me to cut out carbs. I don't see how I can cut them all out and still have a healthy diet, but I am doing well so far and feeling good. As for the OTHER percentage,I'll have to look to just see what th at is and I'll let you know.As for the salt,I do have high blood pressure and need to watch it. I don't care for bread, but I have bought Natures Own Wheat and Fiber to try and get some more fiber in . Merry Christmas1 and Thanks Again!![]()
Why did your doctor tell you to cut out carbs? Is it for a good reason, or is he just behind the times in his information? There's really no need to cut carbs to lose weight, but if you have diabetes they do have to be controlled, and I'm sure there are other medical reasons.
My cardiologist says that those of us with fluid retention problems and/or high blood pressure should limit salt to 1800 mgs. It's not neccesary to go lower than that.
A ER doctor told me this the night I went to the ER three weeks ago thinking I was having a heart attack. My family doctor said I had GERD and told me to do the South Beach if I wanted. Yes,i BELIEVE the ER doctor is behind the times.
