I thought I was the only person that gained weight while on Depro!

When I was 18 years old I started Depro. I weighed 114 pounds at the time, and had never been over that!

After 3 rounds of depro shots I had gained to well over 165 pounds. People thought I was expecting a baby!

I am now 24 years old and weigh 116 pounds. I am almost to where I want to be as far as my weight. It took me a few years to lose all the weight.

The first few years after getting off the depro I wasn't as motivated to lose the weight as I am now. I was actually pretty depressed over the weight gain.

My best advice to you is for you to stop the shots, start counting calories, and use the tool on here to see how many calories you should be consuming. I consume about 1500 calories a day. Keep up on the exercise too! I go 5 times a week, doing 5 hours of cardio a week and 5 hours of weight training a week.

If you go full force you shouldn't take as long as I did to get the weight off.

What are your start weight and weight gain amounts? How many calories a day do you consume, and how many times a week do you work out?

I had better luck on the pill. I didn't gain of that. They really should have more awareness about the weight gain on the shot. That was awful and I feel for you!

Was given a Depo shot recently to "prepare" for the Essure.

Suddenly extra hungry, body shape seems to be changing.  Had a very sudden waterweight gain of 4 pounds.  Normally if I eat "wrong" my water weight gain is about 2.5.

Definitely will not continue! Feel like my GYN did not tell me enough about it! 35 percent of people gaining weight!  That's just the official number but read the posts and it looks like the number should be around 65!

Considering eating lots of soy that acts like Estrogen to balance things out after I get my Essure placement.

i was on depo for almost 2 years and have been off it since early june (so the last shot was early march). i was hoping the weight would just fall off... haha it doesnt happen like that. i've gained 20-30 lbs over the past few years. i started calorie counting and working out again about a month ago and ive only lost 5 lbs so far. however, this week, my period finally started again, so i'm hoping my current lull in weight loss is due to that.

i'm still deciding if i want to go on the pill... i've heard about weight gain on that too. i think i am going to try to get down to my ideal weight again, learning some better eating habits along the way and getting into a workout routine, and then maybe try it.

It's not impossible to lose weight on Depo!  I know everyone is different, but I did CC in 2007 before my wedding (while on depo) and lost weight just as fast as I would otherwise (15lbs in 3 months).

I've been on the depo through my weight loss, and I can lose on it just fine.. I didn't gain weight from the shot in itself, I gained because I ate crap. Of course cravings might be a little more, but its your choice what you end up eating.

With the regular depo, cravings were worse, but my doc told me there is a 'low dose' depo you can get. SMALLLL little like insulin needle to the abdomen, just as effective, and less hormones. I'm all for this one. I know PPH has it, my reg doc doesn't carry it, but can order it via prescription.

I'm hoping it's possible to lose weight after Depo.

I was one of the weird ones. I've always been a little overweight, but I finally worked it off to a healthy BMI, and I was really proud of myself.

I started college this fall, and because I had problems with dysmenorrhea, I wanted to get rid of my periods altogether. Depo sounded like a good option. It's only now that I realize a lot of my problems were possibly side effects.

I probably gained a little bit of weight before college - I was in the 170-180 range, but it's now three months later and after one dose of Depo I weight 213. I have never weighed over 200 pounds in my life, and just seeing that number on the scale makes me so sad.

Granted, it was probably not all Depo's fault, but I did crave more food than usual, feeling the need to stuff my plate full. I ate a pound of chocolates in 3 days. I just was always hungry. It wasn't even that I was eating the wrong kind of food - I don't eat junk food and at the worst have some juice to drink, no soda at all. I would eat healthy things like salad and once in a while treat myself to pizza or spaghetti. It probably had a lot to do with portions, and I think calorie counting can help, but it's just definitely at least somewhat Depo's fault.

I decided to get off of it and go back on the pill - I was on the pill for about a year before Depo, and didn't gain nearly as much weight, if any. I just found that I held water weight - cutting back on salty foods helped that a lot. Depo is definitely different. I now have a muffin top with my baggy jeans. =(

But that's all going to change. =D
