Please don't let Splenda products fool you.
Ummm... all that Splenda KILLED me. I cut it out two days ago and I'm still suffering the side effects.
Splenda is poison. Look it up on google. It's very harmful, and I don't recommend it in any form, except in serious moderation.
splenda tastes disgusting to me.
sweet n low is much better. i only use 1-3 packets a day however. no other artificial sweeteners for me.
aspartame triggers epileptic seizures in me.
Splenda gave me stomach cramps. I stopped using it. My parents use it everyday in their oatmeal and it never bothers them.
It's just like anything else, it will bother some and not others.
But I like Splenda. So many websites will tell you to avoid artificial sweeeners because of the negative side effects, but so many websites will tell you you can develop cancer from wearing underwear some day and I'm really not going to listen to those websites either.
nowadays everything is "bad" for you. The sun, cooking in tinfoil, dairy, meat, eggs, potatoes, sugar, coffee, laughing, breathing, thinking, running..
Some things effect people in a bad way, some don't. I use alot of splenda, especially in the summer time.. for lemonade!!
However, my mom gets severe gas from only one glass.. each to his own.
It's interesting how you said to Google splenda side effects. The first three pages listed talked about anecdotal and observational evidence. That translates into the fact that scientific evidence of these problems have not been seen.
A physician I knew once had a patient that was convinced that sweet-n-low was causing her problems. The doctor, acknowleging that he couldn't be sure advised an elimination diet. The patient went one further, asking her husband to create what was essentially a blinded study by making her coffee with sugar for three days and with the sweet-n-low for three.
Sure enough after three days of no symptoms, the next three days caused the problems to return. So it must have been the sweet-n-low, right?
Actually, the husband goofed up and gave her sugar in her coffee all six days. The wife, after not having any problems the first three days, figured that the next three would have the sweet-n-low and anticipated the problems would start, and her mind made it happen.
This is a variation on the placebo effect. Now I'm not saying that there will be no people out there who won't be able to tolerate Splenda, just that making a blanket statement based on inappropriate evidence is also wrong.
Note: one of the sites I visited was expounding chelation therapy for everything, a procedure with definite health risks with little to no evidence of effectiveness/
I know, this is a hot topic and there are pros and cons on artificial sweeteners vs. regular sugar. Here are my comments.
Splenda is made from sugar but it is chemically changed. True
Whenever I cooked with it, my husband said it left a "metallic" aftertaste in his mouth. I can't say that, but it did have some type of aftertaste all right.
Sugar is not evil ! I decided not to use Splenda but used fructose for months. That worked out alright. Due to the high cost of fructose, I finally switched back to good old table sugar. Frankly, baked products turn out like they should and by counting calories, I am able to still lose weight. I don't use a lot anyway and use other sweeteners like honey (we have bee hives) and real maple syrup for hot cereals and baking.
I do admit to drinking "diet" pop but rarely anymore as sometimes it really upsets my stomach and gives me gas pains. Do I attribute that to the diet sweetener? Sure, I think it contributes plus the rest of the chemicals in canned cola pop. Afterall, there is no real food products in that can!
So I have plain water or fruit juice instead, but every now and then, that cola beverage just hits the spot!
Opinions expressed here are mine alone and what I find that works best for me.
Hugs,
Joyce
I despise artificial sweeteners of any kind for various reasons, but usually for most people, the side effects are subtle or nonexistent, with a possible damaging cumulative effect.
My problem with artificial sweeteners is that they fail to address the problem, which is addiction to sweetness and other intense flavors, and they have a tendency to make people crave even more sweets.
It may be that you have a sensitivity to Splenda or one of the other chemicals in the yogurt.
I have PLAIN yogurt with a bit of fresh fruit in it almost every day, and have no need for any sort of sugar or sweetener - the fruit alone is sweet enough.
Whether you notice a quick reaction or no reaction at all any artificial sweetener is not good for you.
They can and do cause health problems. As all artificial sweeteners are toxins they hepatic(liver) stress. This can cause a reduction in metabolism and damage to the liver itself amongst other things.
The liver has a massive number of function, near 500, so any reduction in the livers performance or health can have a much greater impact on the body as a whole.
Oxidation is increased which, in turn, increases risks of other health problems and disease like cancer and arthritis... remember those antioxidants we love to add to our diets?.. If you use artificial sweeteners, give yourself an extra helping of antioxidants! You may need it!
They also cause an increase in acidity which is itself a cause of over 150 degenerative diseases. The body sits happily in a slightly alkalione state where you will not get disseases like cancer, which require an acidic state for growth... by consuming toxins such as artificial sweeteners you are creating an environment for cancer to survive and grow. The more you consume acid causing, toxic substances the more likely you are to become ill. Simple as that really.
One can of diet soda contains enough artificial sweetener (aspartame in this case) that it and its harmful metabolites can stay in your body and liver for 12 to 18 months! It will convert into formaldehide and cause all sortd of trouble from making it hard to break down fat to causing blindness.
Does splenda cause the same problem as aspartame.. some yes.. others no. It is very likely that it is deposited in the body as chlorinated hydrocarbons.... chlorinate.. as in it has chlorine in. Why is chlorine used in water??.. to kill living organisms.. well last time I checked I was a living organism! Even better though.. the chlorine in splenda is likely high grade stuff.. pesticide and weapons grade stuff! Do you really want it in your body??
When the metabolites of splenda are deposited in your fat stores it increased acidity, so your body sends water to it to protect the cells (dilution). This makes it much harder for your body to break down the fat cells.. most of you on here are probably after weight loss... and you think artificial sweeteners are a good way to do that right?! Wrong!
Sugar and honey are natural... a much better option in moderation.. or fruit.. or if you want something low GI then maybe try palentinose which is sweet but also low GI so wont give that dreaded insulin spike (or diabetes) like sugar will.
Or Stevia.. great choice! not that the FDA you americans have like it(they still got it on the banned list?).. because it would be more expensive and they already made artificial aweeteners their fave! Nice one Mr FDA! Get Stevia if you can anyway... its expensive but if you want to put a price on your own health....? Or maybe just dont be so greedy with all the cakes eh!
I still like those of you who have a diet soda with your Big Mac and fries.. thats so funny! Anyway I'm boring myself now!
Enjoy your sweeteners! or not if you're smart and value your health....

You know, it's comments like these that obliterate the entirety of what you just posted.
Insulting people is not a good way to get them to pay attention to anything.
I eat the light and fit yogurt every morning as well.
But only ONCE a day.
Anything with fake sugar is going to be not as good for you as the real thing, but if it's helping me curb my appetite, I'll do it, in moderation.
HOWEVER.....I will not touch aspartame, or high fructose corn syrup. Those are both FAR FAR FAR worse than little old splenda.
Sure if you are one of the people sensitive to Splenda, don't use it. But remember many people consider it a godsend because it helps them control their blood sugar or diet successfully.

Hey just wanted to mention in case anyone wasn't aware.. yogurt is something you should eat in moderation - it has ALOT of cultures in it and bacterias that affect your GI track! I work in a Vet and we suggest to many people to feed their animals yogurt if they are constipated and such. It has the same affects on humans... it could possibly be that the diarrhea is what's causing the head aches due to dehydration. Hopefully you are drinking plenty of water when you eat yogurt. But regardless I wouldn't recommend eating too much yogurt - because as is may be positive to balance your GI track... the same with anything else too much isn't any good and can throw your balance way off! I suggest you go see a doctor regardless!
I get headaches, the runs, and bloating. Same thing with Nutrasweet. I am actually better off with the old school sweetener, saccharin (which I use just for my one morning coffee), or just using turbinado sugar.
I'd love to use stevia, but it's just too expensive for my taste.
My dad was diagnosed with diabetes in 1987 and we have all been using artificial sweeteners ever since. His diatician recommended it, and my current doctor supports it. I have never had an adverse reaction. Also, true food allergies are very uncommon, regardless of popular belief. Sometimes these reactions are purely psychosomatic.
Google is not a tool for truth. Try Google Scholar.
I'm the type of dieter that researches what I'm doing. Google Scholar points to ACTUAL RESEARCH, whereas the sites that come up on normal Google are all propaganda for one thing or another (the author has stock in Stevia products, perhaps). I have found this to be true, and I have also found that true research has shown no average ill effects on eaters of aspartame, splenda, or stevia.
I wish others would know how to use Google Scholar instead of thinking that they're going to be everyone's hero because they just found some random nut on the internet who claims something and has bogus 'proof'.
Eat Splenda.
I should write an article on it every day just to counteract the crazies.
