Can I please eat a snickers bar??

Quote  |  Reply

I've been on a 1200 calorie a day diet. I want to maintain this and not go over 1200 for the day but can I have a snickers bar in place of healthy food? If I eat a snickers bar and still only consume 1200 calories (candy included) will it make a difference? My main question is- does it matter if I eat 1200 calories of junk food as long as I dont go over.

Of course!! Indulge a bit. Make it an occasional treat! Say once a week you will have a snickers bar, just make sure its in your calories for the day. Sure you could eat 1200 calories worth of junk and still loose weight, but thats not very healthy and your body will get lack of vitamins and nutrients that it needs to survive.

Hope this helped.

Thanks!

I suggest eating the snickers bar, plus something else, like a full healthy meal.  1200 calories is only enough for your organs to function.  Eat more, for the sake of your health.

you can, i eat a lot of junk food but stay within my calories and i've lost a bunch of weight

but i bet you'll get hungry later, i know i would. because it's all sugar and not filling at all, in my opinion

i would eat half of the snickers, or even a third, so the rest of your calories can go towards somthing with bulk

You can... but I used to do this all the time because my friends mother would occasionally eat an ice cream sundae instead of dinner and stuff.

I got into a bad habit of doing it TOO often. I just ate bad food all the time instead of a real meal (cookies, ate like a banana for lunch or pinkberry) and my health suffered consequently. I think once in a while it's fine... or give yourself a free day.

I ate too much today but I had a full on sweet snack today which was an experience I haven't had in awhile.... Although I really don't have urges for them anymore so I don't see the point. :)

Absolutely you can eat one however, please weigh the consequences of eating it. Will the few minutes of satisfaction be worth the impact.  Look yourself in the mirror and ask the question...if its yes then go for it.

I think this is a good point (I'll keep it in mind for myself : ) ). I wouldn't personally get into the habit of having it everyday, but when you are, maybe you could plan ahead of time and eat more filling items for the rest of your calories so you don't feel hungry. So make sure to eat items that are getting the most bang for your buck, like veggies, soups, fruits and less chunks of meats and grains.

For me what I like to do is get good quality dark chocolate bar and take a fraction when I want a little something sweet, usually at the end of the day before I go to bed, but I don't do it every night. It's dark chocolate so there's not much sugar in it. It might add like 20-40 calories to my count.

I suggest you buy a bag of the FunSize snickers, you can still get your snickers fulfillment and not use half you days calories. Even if you have 2 it's still less than a whole regular size snickers.

I used to have an obsession with Snicker bars - they just so tasty & the nuts make you want more - So I started to freeze them - you cant cram the whole lot in at once & its takes so long to chew you get bored & the desire wears off - so much so I never want one now... lol

Good suggestion. That way you don't have to starve yourself! No good!

Surprisingly, a Snickers bar gets a "C" grade in the food database here.  You can definitely do worse.

Just add it for a day and go for an extra walk or something.  Don't try to substitute it for healthy calories.  You're going to be hungry if you do.  I would be, anyway...

There is nothing junky about a Snickers Bar.  It is a good snack and comparable to many of the more expensive "protein bars" that you find in the health food aisle.

Why don't you have your 1200 cals of healthy food and THEN have the snickers bar? There is nothing wrong with a little treat BUT it is almost impossible to get an adequate amount of nutrition on 1200 calories as it is (which is why most people will tell you it's far too low), so why limit that even more by replacing good food with a chocolate bar?

P.S. You should really try to eat more than 1200 calories, you will thank yourself when you get to maintenance

Not really. Not that protein bars are that great, but there aren't very many with 28 grams of sugar. Most have less than 10. Plus, um, the protein.

Does it matter for what? weight loss? probably not.  Fat loss? yes it matters.  Health? yup, it matters.  Energy levels? yup.

Why does everyone always stick to 1200? You're not gonna lose more weight by eating the minimun calorie requirement everyday.

eat it on top of your 1200, i wouldn't get in the habit of substituting crap for healthy nutritious food. and the fun size is a good idea. i do it with chocolate buttons ... 75 calories for a bag. great stuff!!

1200 calories is a lot of junk food.  A lot more than a Snickers bar.  I thought through the logic of this once when Butterfingers were on sale and I could get all my daily calories for $2 by eating 5 of them.  A very inexpensive diet.

I guess you COULD survive on a 1200 calorie diet of nothing but sugar and fat for a few days.   But the lack of protein and complex carbs would catch up with you very quickly, health wise.  And you would feel hungry most of the time.  I wouldn't recommend trying it.

WHAT?  I don't know what kind of protein bars you are eating, but a Snickers is a far cry from most of them.  A "good snack" it is NOT.

A Zone Perfect bar has 210 cal, 7g fat, 3 gms fiber, 24 g carbs, and 14 gms of protein.  These are delicious bars - I love them, and they are FAR healthier than a Snickers.

A 2oz Snickers has 266 cal, 11 gms fat, 1 gm fiber, 37 g carbs, and 5 gms protein.

The most filling protein bar that I eat is a Kashi GOLean Chewy. The Chocolate Almond Toffee one is 2.75 oz (it's too much for me to eat at once - I eat half at a time!) has 290 cal, 6 gms fat, 6 gms fiber, 45 g carbs, and 13 gms protein.

I'm not saying you can't eat a Snickers bar.  But don't call it "a good snack".  It isn't.  You can do much better in a bar.
