Please help...answers needed :)

Quote  |  Reply

Okay...I just started Monday, Aug 11...I started at 244...I am 5' 4"...

I am 36 year old female...and I lead a pretty sedentary life(which I am changing).

I use to eat a lot...I am figuring around 3000 calories...

So first questioned...I reduced my calorie intake to about 1350(average)

How long will it take my appetite to reduce itself?

Second question

How far apart should the number be from calorie intake to burn meter?

Thanks all :)

Your appetite will depend on you. Your body will adjust best if you eat small amounts frequently throughout the day. If you don't let yourself get too hungrey you will not have a problem there. Ideally you could eat 5-6 times a day 3 meals with 3 snacks. Just be sure to balance your fat, carbs and protien.

Your last question I think what you want to know is if you burn 2500 cal a day how many should you eat? If that is what you want to know the answer is 500-1000 cal differnce. You will hear it called your defficit. For example on average I burn 2200 cal a day so I should eat at least 1200 cal but can have up to 1700 and still lose. I try to stick to about 1350 a day. It works well for me.

You are probably eating too little.  I began (again) just a couple of weeks ago and I started at 1700 cal.  I starved at that for the first few days and then my body adjusted.  When that became comfortable I dropped it to 1600.   That feels pretty good so far.

If you would like to lose one pound per week your calorie intake should be 500 calories less than your burn meter.  A little more deficit for a little more weight.

Good luck to you.  What are you doing to change your sedentary lifestyle?  Walking is my favorite.

Thank you sooo much for your answers...deficit...got it...

I hate to walk for no purpose...and I heard the best exercise to do...it the one your willing to do Wink....So its your basic calisthenics for me...and I have stairs in my home so I am using them also...

I have a trampoline...but...I can't bring myself to use it in the daylight with neighbors all around...they don't need to see that much jiggle in the morning...

So I got on tonight...

Tomchan - I ran your numbers that you provided above against an online calculator using the information it spit out the following information:

Your Weight Maintenance Calorie Count

The approximate daily calorie count for you to maintain your current weight is 2229 calories.

So based on the maintain calories of 2229 if you want to sensibly loose weight (without starving yourself) reduce your body weight by 1 lb a week you must have a deficit of 3500 calories for the week or -500 calories a day.  That would make your daily intake 2229-500 = 1729 calories for the day and thats at a sedementary life.  If you increase exercise obviously you would be allowed to add in "some" additional calories.  So based on this I would say you are too low on the calories and I would increase your food up to meet a sensible weight loss plan.

I agree with the others that suggested eating more.  When you're starting at a higher weight you shouldn't reduce to the bare minimum immediately.  As you lose weight you will have to adjust your calories down so why start off so low.  It you are trying to make permanent changes it is easier to eat reasonably without starving. Good luck to you.

You are telling to eat more...how horribleLaughing....I don't know...eat more food...don't know if that can be done...lol

Thanks and thank you to dave98z3 for taking the time to run my numbers...that was way cool of you....

:going off to the kitchen to plan my food for the day:

I don't know if you want to try this, but low carb is better at reducing your appetite and keeping hunger at bay. I find I can maintain my weight on low carb but I can't lose it unless I count calories too, so doing both can be very effective, but obviously you still have to watch the fat as those items are more dense with calories.

I know, it cuts down your options even more, but it does help to keep blood sugar from spiking which causes a reaction of insulin causing it to drop (that then makes you feel hungry).

Also, I say more calories too.
