Please help me find clothing that fits!

Quote  |  Reply
I'm not sure if this goes in this forum, but since I recently got to this size again, I'll put it in here. ;-)

I CANNOT find clothes that fit me! I just spend a good afternoon failing to find a summer wardrobe. *rant* Here's my problem. I'm petite, but I'm not just petite. I'm what some people would call SUPER petite. I have a medium/large frame, but I am short, 5'0". I weigh about 123/124, if that helps...

Waist- 28
Thighs- 19
Inseam- 28
I have broad shoulders and short arms. So short that normal petite tops are too long. My inseam is very short, so I rarely fit into petite pants sizes, I need the very elusive petite short sizes. And to top it all off, my foot is super wide so I always have to buy wide widths. :-(

What should I do? Where should I go to find clothing? I've been recommended Ann Taylor Loft, and I did go there, but it was $$$$ and they had very limited options. Any help? :-(

*edit* Should also mention that I intend to learn to tailor my own clothes this summer... ><

I am 5'1" 128 lbs, I have the same problem. I shop in the childrens department and usually buy a girls X large. Limits mature selections - but it feels good to pull something off the rack and know it will fit.

Banana Republic and the Gap have petites clothes online.

The Limited and NY&Co sell short pants.

Some department stores such as Macy's and Lord and Taylor have petite departments.  INC. from Macy's has a pretty good selection.

I don't have as short of an inseam as you, but I have come to love my local dry cleaner's as my one stop for alterations.  I don't like to spend a lot on my clothes, both because I don't have a lot of expendable income to spend on clothes, but also because I can't justify spending money on clothes that might not fit me for a while.  So, if you like a pair of petite pants, but they are too long or baggy in some spots, take them to an alteration place (like I said, dry cleaners are a great place and usually cheaper than just alteration shops) and tell them exactly how you want them to fit.  I had the hardest time before I started doing this finding pants.  Also, I have taken tunics and items that are a weird length for me to be taken up.

Good luck!

My fiance's aunt gets herself capris and wears them as pants- no joke, she came to a family barbecue with pants that fit her PERFECTLY and it turns out they were children's Barbie capri pants.

ah, but the problem with that is that capris etc. are shaped differently.  So if you want a nice straight or bootleg pant its impossible with a short inseam.  I have done some of my own tailoring, but I'm definitely going to check out some local dry cleaners in the future.
I had the exact same problems!  For pants - I found a lot of clothes that fit very nicely for not a lot of money (at least the clearance items) in the petite department of Kohls.  I got an entire new summer wardrobe (in size 6... yes!) for about $150.

For shirts I have found that 3/4 sleeve fit the best... I found a few nice ones at Taylor's.

Another nice place, especially for dress clothes (if you shop the clearance rack again) is Christopher Banks.

Any store that has a "petite" department works!

custom jeans, just give them your measurements. They're around 50 bucks. Not too bad if you'll be wearing the same size for a while.
