Please help me! =(

Quote  |  Reply

Hi, I'm 19 years old, 115-117 pounds and I exercise 3 times per week. In total I do 3 hours of interval cardio per week along with about 3 hours of weightlifting per week. I eat 1500 calories per day...

So lately I've been EXTREMELY BLOATED so with some research, I figured I may have candida in my stomach. So yesterday I ate only vegetables and meat (aside from half a pita which I soon realized wasn't allowed). So I'm taking this candida treatment (2 capsules plus drops 2 times per day containing various herbs).

Anyways, today I caved because I was so exhausted from not eating any simple carbohydrates. So I basically ate a whole bunch of oatmeal, cheerios, lots of ice cream etc. I pretty much feel EXTREMELY **** and I'm too tired to go back to the gym for the one hour it will remain open. I ate 2700 calories WTF!!!!!!! So sad.

I just don't know if what I'm doing is right. Can someone please help me?

First of all, you can't diagnose candida yourself.  It takes a simple test to detect it.

As for the bloating - It really depends on what you mean by bloated.  If it's fluid retention you are refering too, then maybe you need to watch your sodium intake.  If you mean intestinal gas, then it could be not enough fiber, or too much fat, or it could mean something is wrong such as gall bladder disease.  No matter which, nobody on a message board can diagnose what's wrong.

Either see a doctor, or wholistic nutritionist to get a professional diagnosis and treatment, or get your self back on a balanced, sensible diet.  You have all the tools you need here to figure out a good meal plan.  Don't mess around with herbal remedies when you have no idea what's wrong.

Since you're already a low weight, I'm assuming you are trying to maintain your weight.

Really? Apparantly you can test yourself with a water experiment.

A Simple Test You Can Do at Home

First thing in the morning, before you put ANYTHING in your mouth, get a clear glass and fill with water. Work up a bit of saliva, then spit it into the glass of water. Check the water after a moment or within 2-3 minutes, then within every 15 minutes.

If you have a candida yeast infection, you will see strings, like cloudy legs, traveling down into the water from the saliva floating on the top, or "cloudy" saliva will sink to the bottom of the glass, or cloudy specks will seem to be suspended in the water. If there are no strings, the water is as clear as it was before you spit in the glass and the saliva is still floating after at least one hour, you are probably candida yeast free. The more strings and cloudiness there is and the faster it develops, the greater the overgrowth.

Anyway, I did that and it appears that occurred. I am very good with my diet, aside from the normal slip-ups. I always make sure I eat lots of vegetables, fruits, protein, whole grains and dairy.

And will 1500 maintain my weight or make my body think it's starving?

As a girl under 21 you should be eating a lot more than 1500 calories a day especially given your activity level. What is your height? 115-117 seems quite low. Either way, you can work out the sort of calories you should be eating you can use this calculator to work it out as CC's tools are inaccurate for someone your age: http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html. Believe it or not you are still growing. Yes, even in the later years - there's more going on inside of you that you simply can't see.

The reason you ate so many carbs is because you're essentially restricting by not eating them. You do not have a valid medical reason not to be eating them and you should NOT be taking a medicine for something like candida that you have not been diagnosed for. Go and speak to your doctor.

I'm 5"3'. That's strange how most people on this website normally eat 1200-1500 calories per day. Also, a famous trainer named Jackie eats 1500 calories per day. That website says I should be consuming 1600 while absolutely SEDENTARY! I'm just really afraid all of these calculators are bogus and will make me gain weight .. especially reading all these posts on CC ..

Thanks for the advice, I will see my doctor!

Read again: Believe it or not you are still growing. Yes, even in the later years - there's more going on inside of you that you simply can't see.

That means your body consumes more calories because it is actively growing. CC's tools are inaccurate for under 21's.

Please do go and speak to your doctor.

tehsina really you need to see a doctor if at 19 you are self diagnosing and treating yourself, you might not live a long life. Forget what a website said, l'm sure the author of that site goes to the doctor when something is wrong with them. It could be gallstones now diagnose that!!
