Ok. Over the past 2 weeks I've gained 1.6 pounds. I know its not much but it puts me at 111.6 and I REALLY want to get back to 110. The thing is whenever I cut back my cals to about 1500, and with 45 minutes of cardio where a burn roughly 600 cals, I always wind up binging, a lot. So here is my plan: Don't strictly count cals, but reach for a pear instead of peanut butter type stuff. Exercise, but don't OCD over the calories burned. Do you think this will help? I'll still count cals, but roughly, instead of knowing every single thing that goes into my mouth. Sorry if this doesn't make sense.

Do you eat often throughout the day? That might help with binging.

edit: you need at least a net intake of 1200 cals a day, and you're only taking in 900 right no, so upping your intake will help you out.

I don't think counting cals is the problem. I think that you just aren't giving yourself enough calories with that amount of exercise. if you burn 600 cals and eat 1500, your body is only getting about 900 calories per day. That's why you're starving and that's why you binge. Try raising your calorie target to more like 1800 or 1900 on exercise days and it might be better.

The reaching for fruit rather than high cal foods is still a good idea, as long as you aren't starving yourself enough to cause binging.

To the first response: I never said I eat that during the day. I said I eat AT LEAST 1500 during the day. And yea, I eat enough during the day, I'm just a big night time eater so I always leave a little wiggle room. Like my daily intake before dinner is usually 700 cals or so.

Thanks for your responses tho. :)

Your fairly young....right?  I don't think your getting enough calories.  Go into tools and recalculate your activity level not the one to lose weight, but the one that would tell you how many calories you burn in a day. With moderate, 45 minutes of cardio, I believe moderate is good.  Then subtract 1500 and what do you get? Is your deficit too large.  Even after that switch it back to a sedentary day for the days you do not exercise and decide your deficit from that.  Let us know what your number are.

First of all - man do you rock for sticking to your workouts! It's terrific you're taking such care of yourself. My suggestion (as was given to me by a healthy gym rat friend of mine) is to eat a low low fat protein within 30 minutes of your workout - chicken breast, cottage cheese, string cheese, egg whites, nonfat yogurt (continental is terrific - no added suger - just fruit and fruit juices) something like that - if you don't do that already. If you work out at a gym, try having it in the car for when you get out. I don't think something like a pear will help because your body wants *protein* after you work out which may be the reason for the binge.

 Good luck!

jjlewis, under moderate activity it says I burn 2100 cals a day. That gives me a 600 calorie deficite, which isn't too bad, is it? I'm 15, if that means anything. I think I'm done growing tho cause I haven't in about 2 years. On sedentary days I burn about 1800.

Thank you beetlejuicecheerios! That sounds like it might help.

Growth happens in more than the vertical direction.  There are all kinds of internal changes that happen during your teen years that your body needs calories for.

My recommendation is to try eating at your maintenance level for a few weeks and see how your body responds. Generally if it's going to let you lose that last little bit then it will need to know with certainty that the food supply is not in jeopardy. The 110 is just a number on the scale.  I can change my weight by breathing hard some days or switching to a friendlier scale or weighing in after a hot shower, etc.

The problem is that the CC calculator is geared towards adults. You need to use a teen calculator. http://www.kidsnutrition.org/bodycomp/bmiz2.h tml

According to that, 1700 cals per day is more appropriate than 1500.

hmm...I'm a little scared to up my cals that much but I'll try. What if I only do my cardio 3 times a week, like I did last week. I don't plan on it but just incase...would I still lose weight during weeks like those if I eat 1700 cals?

aren't you a recovering anorexic?

I don't mean to be rude or pry it's just I think the obsession with 1.6 lbs a little alarming if this is the case.

Be well it's worth it.

yes i am, but I'm also struggling with a binging disorder now and I want to make sure I don't get too high up there in weight. I didn't like my 110 pound body, (I want to be 105 or 100,) but i'm not letting myself lose weight. However, 110 pounds is as heavy as I'm willing to get, and I want to make sure I don't go over.

Is anyone else beside me worried that this person only weighs 111 pounds and is concerned about their weight??  I mean come on!!!

Quite honestly? Go to the bathroom and take a dump and you'll probably be 110 again.

Good for you for working on the recovery, but you have to realize that your body weight is going to fluncuate throughout the day. Most likely that 1.6 pounds is water weight. I don't get concerned until I see my weight fluncuate more than a four pound range (not counting during TTOM, in which it's more like five.)

110 is quite small...  you really do NOT have to worry about your weight.  enjoy life instead!!!  :D
