ok...so last spring i joined the track team and decided thati wanted to be very athletic and healthy..i started to diet (probably too much) and that combined with the amount of running i was doing i lost a lot of wheight. I dont know what I wheiged before this, but by the end of spring I was at 104 pounds...my height is  5'4' and I am seventeen...when i went home for the summer everyone told me i was too skinny and rumors began to spread that i was naorexic (which might have been true since i stopped getting my period)...well after that i got off the diet and excersice...since them i gianed wheight (maybe too much) since now i am at 118 punds... i feel that 114 would be a great wheight, so i started to go to the gym about 3 times a week and eating a little healthier...the porblem is that no matter what i do i keep gaining wheight! i think that i might have scrwed up my metabolism since my incident in the spring and now i am just going to keep on gianing wheight until i get fat!..i dont know what i should do, has anyone been through somehting similar? suggestions? they are greatly appreciated :)

Your body may be off but that doesn't mean that there's any permenant damage.  Please remember muscle weighs more that fat and from your weight, you sound like you are at a healthy weight now. Make sure you eat enough food for your body to burn when exercising or it will go into starvation mode and want to hang on to everything you eat. As one of the girls told me, your metabolism is like a furnace and to keep a furnace going, it needs coal every few hours. That is exactly what your body needs, consistent care. I hope this helps a little :)

"Based upon your current Body Mass Index (BMI) of 20.3, you are currently classed as at a healthy weight.

A healthy BMI for your gender and age is between 20 and 24"

------

Your weight is just fine now, you might gain a little while your body readjusts itself, but if you eat right and keep active, you aren't going to get fat.

I agree. Your BMI is healthy (NOT "obese"). It's normal to gain weight after you've been restricting way too much, becuase your body is trying to get back to normal. You're not going to get fat, I promise. Just eat enough calories (ironically, eating too few calories could cause you to gain weight because of starvation mode) and exercise. However, eat back the calories you burn through exercise so you don't go back into starvation mode.

:) good luck!

Aw, I just want to say that.... you are just like me! I'm 19, but I'm 5'4", and as of a few hours ago (hehe) 112lbs. Usually I'm more like 110, but my body has been crazy the last week, and I've been going up and it drives me insane. I'm also freaking out because I think the same thing-- what if I don't stop gaining weight?! (Oh, and I am also getting over an eating disorder... my lowest weight was also 104lbs!)

Anyway, don't worry!! Please try to focus on the fact that you are being HEALTHY. Good, nutritious food and exercise is healthy. I know I'm the biggest hypocrite ever for saying this, because I only seem to believe it when it's about someone else... but it's true. 118 is a great weight for our height. 114 is alright, too, but really, since you're so healthy already, there's no huge need to really work to get down to it, you know? Just try to remember that, as long as you stay healthy (eat enough, and eat good foods, and exercise, specificlaly), your body will be happy with you, and it'll sort itself out. Don't be discouraged by what the stupid scale says! :)
it sounds to me you still have an eating disorder if you think 118lbs is obese

First, fluffydarryl, I don't think she meant that 118 was obese, but that she was scared of becoming obese (or fat at least) if she continued to gain weight as she is.

idggirl, sounds to me like you're at a great weight for your age and height.  If you're exercising regularly and eating healthily then I highly doubt you will continue to gain weight.  You may gain a little whilst your body readjusts but I'm sure if you give it time and make sure you don't eat too much OR too little and keep active then I'm positive the gaining will stop and you'll probably loose some weight again when your body realises it doesn't need to hold on to ever little thing.  Plus the weight you're gaining may not be bad as it could be muscle weight which would be a good thing to gain =]
