I am new to this.  I currently weigh 137-138 and stand 5'4".  I have always been around 105-110 and though I don't want to be that thin again (due to having 2 babies), I do want to be around 115-120 and fit into some old jeans, etc.  I have cut my calorie intake to about 1000-1200, but find myself eating more in the afternoon to early evening.  I continuely tell myself "tomorrow, I will start exercising more", but when I wake up, I'll tell myself that again.  I need motivation.  I live with a very un-supporting husband who says I'm fat and likes to smack me on my fat a**, but if I lose weight, he's says I'm too skinny.  I'm not trying to do this for him, but for myself.  He is a very controlling man, and I do not have any friends, except for two back from my childhood, in which I don't speak to very often.  Needless to say, my self esteem has been shot.  I am very depressed and taking well-butrin to up my mood.  Can I or will I find suppport from a new friend?  Any suggestions on exercising in this heat?  I am located in VA., and have access to a gym.  I am mainly concentrating on my lower body.  Thanks to you all.....

I understand all too well. I have been on CC for a little over a month nowand the biggest help to me has been to make one change at a time. Don't try to change everything or you will go nuts. I have focused on my eating habits right now and not worried about exercise so much (I hate it!!!!) It is 109 degrees today, 108 yesterday, so I cannot go out and exercise with my kids, so I will work that into my schedule after we cool down (whenver that might be:) Anyway, forget your hubby, look into the mirror and tell yourself (repeatedly) how beautiful you are (I mean literally-outloud) and keep doing that all day. I fell really low after my hubby left and it took some time to pick myself back up-you can do it!!! Look at your children and remind yourself that those beautiful babies came from YOU! And remember, you are worth it!!
I'm sure some people with better advice for you will come... but 1000 calories is not enough. 1200 is the minimum you should eat in a day.
If you have access to a gym... go to the gym. With the weather being so hot I wouldn't even bother exercising outdoors until the temps drop a bit. There's a calculator on this site that tells you how many calories you should eat per day based on your height, weight etc to maintain the weight you're at. Subtract 300 calories from that and eat that each day. If you can start going to the gym and doing some cardio and some weight lifting you'll hit your goal in no time, i'm sure.
Hi, Once you begin... you will feel better...
Instead of feeling depressed, you will feel proud of yourself. Its hard starting and keeping to the excerise routine, but keep on it.

If you have a gym near, join up right away. Also include strengthing.
You will loose fat with Cardio at least 45 mins, but become stronger with Strengthing (15-20 mins).

i agree with alibuch, 1000-1200 calories a day is not enough. You need 1200 just to live. Use the Calculators on this site, Also ivillage has a health calculator that is pretty good. It tells you how many calories you should eat and calcium, iron requirements and whole lot of other info.

I used my goal weight and got the recommended calorie intake for 120 lbs. I go by this. Ultimately, I will have to eat this amount plus alittle more to maintain the weight.

As for your husband, what matters is that you are doing it for yourself. If he is not supportive, forget him. The new healthy eating that you will learn and the healthy lifestyle you will have you can pass it on to your kids.

I wish you the Best!!!
Keep a journal... it helps to pindown foods that are not working for you, track calorie intake and solve plateau problems.

Why don't you make a profile I will add you as a freind and we can do this together since our weight goals are so similar. I am 5'3 132 and want 110.  You just need to start that's all. Start slowly don't attempt to run 10 miles tomorrow and don't feel like a failure if you can't.
Well, i'm sure you'll find lots of friends on this site. Don't worry about your husband. Apparenty, he's a man that doesn't seem to care much for others, so why care what he thinks?  I think it's a great idea to start working out and eating healthier. It makes me feel a lot better about myself just because i've set out a goal and reached it, even though sometimes i don't. Haha :) Well, what i think you should do is start doing something that you think is easier. Is it easier for you to eat better or to work out? Whichever it is start with that. Make a goal for yourself everyday. Say "today, i'm not going to have any cookies or sweets." It may be hard but if you can do it and reach that goal, you'll feel so proud of yourself.

first of all, CONGRATULATIONS  for wanting to do it FOR YOURSELF!

secondly, i suggest you take things one step at a time: plan your meals for the second day, stick to the planned hours for each meal and do not go under 1200cal daily

maybe your husband really likes "fluffy" women - I know mine does -  or he simply is afraid of male competitors if you get into shape; so forget about his worries and dtick to your plan

as for being friends here, it can be possible in my case only on this forum for now, or on some chat programs - me being located in Europe... ;), it's pretty hard to meet

good luck and feel free to ask for our support when you feel like!
