I am looking for a pattern to follow......currenlty I weigh 145 @ 5 4 and I work out about 1.5 to 3 hours a day 6 days a week. I have NEVER eaten more than 1500 cals a day unless I have a cheat day which is about 3500 because Im starving to death. I know 1500 cals is low........especially for my workout level and muscle mass ( I lift heavy weights 5 days a week). I think eating to little is hindering my weight loss because my body is starving and saving whatever food i eat....but it is a scary thing to think i can eat more and LOSE weight.......

PS I eat ONLY clean foods,,,,,yams, skinless chicken, oats, white fish.....so its clean cals

So can everyone help me out to make me feel okay with eating...on their height, weight, and calorie level?

hi!

I'm 5'11'' and 139lbs . I work out 6 days a week, usually at least 50 minutes of cardio, followed by lots of sit ups, lunges, etc. i also usually walk at least 3 miles a day. some weeks i switch it up and run 25-30 miles a week instead of the gym (but still sits up etc)

anyway i have a very tough time eating more than 1400 calories. i know i should be taking in a lot. but i usually eat about 1200 if that. i too know im supposed to, and should be eating a LOT more- calorie wise, but i really find it hard. in fact im going to the doctors today and going to mention it. ill post if i get any info that can help you too!

lots of veggies, fruit, oatmeal, egg whites, peanut butter. not big on breads or meat but ill have fish occasionally.
i am 5'2'', i weigh 148 and i take in 2000 cals a day.

i workout quite vigorously, just like you do

have a good one!
good luck at the doctors! and thanks for posting!!!! Do you not eat because your not hungry or because you have a mental block (such as myself) about eating more?

I know i went down to 1200 cals and stopped having my period......i havent had it in 3 months....so i bumped up my cals to 1750 hoping to restore it.

I'm 5'11", 153 lbs, and I eat about 2000 calories a day.  I exercise 5 days a week - 3 days weight training with some cardio (30 mins) and 2 days cardio only (45-50 mins).  I still lose weight.
5' 3", 137lbs now, with a short-term goal of 135 by 8/17 and then getting down to and maintaining 130-133lbs after that.

To maintain a weight of 135lbs at my height, you need 1600 calories a day.

So, to loose weight, I've got a goal of around 1100 calories a day by the formula of maintenance weight - 500 calories (1600 - 500 = 1100).  So, I'm SHORT not anorexic.  The often spoken of 1200 calorie a day minimum simply doesn't work for those of us who are shorter than average!

In reality, I eat an average of 1100-1200 on weekdays and about 1600 a day on weekends.  This nets me a loss of about a pound a week with little to no exercise.  (I only use exercise to make up for times when I go over my calories.)

Hope this helps,
-Erica
5'5", 162 lbs, female, medium build, currently losing 1+ lbs per week.  I currently have a base sedentary rate of 1800 per day.  I'm not religious about the calories or the exercise because what I'm doing is working.  I try to listen to my body and eat when it tells me to while keeping the base 1200 nutritious calories plus whatever I need for my level of exercise.

Mondays - 200 exercise, eat 1200-1400

Tuesdays - 1500 exercise (not a typo), eat 1500-2500

Wednesdays - 100 activity, eat 1200-1400

Thursdays - 1000 exercise, eat 1500-1800

Fridays - no exercise, eat 1200-1400

Saturdays - 300-600 exercise, eat 1500-1800

Sundays - no exercise, eat 1200-1500
I'm 5'2", 143 (down from 164). I zig-zag A LOT, 1000-2000/day.  Works for me! :)
Wow sweatheartof650... you and I are very much alike.  I'm 5'4" and weigh 146lbs. I, too, am eating anywhere from 1600-1700 calories, weight-training 4-5 x's per week, and doing cardio 6 days.

My trainer also told me to start drinking a gallon of water a day and try this thing called carb-cycling.  It's basically where you fluctuate the amount of carbohydrates and protein you are eating every day.  You have high, medium, and low days.  I will tell you more about it, if you're interested... it seems to have helped me out, as I was also plateauing/ hindering.

Good luck, though, and don't worry! You're doing great so far!
5'7", 131 lbs, 1200-1500 cals per day, and I do weights for an hour and a half, 6 days a week, and I run 5k 3 days a week.

drink water!
I'm 5'0" 108 lb and 41 years old (age plays into this too) with approx 18% body fat (amount of lean mass counts too). If I don't exercise, I have a more sedentary lifestyle than most, since I telecommute.

I am still losing at the rate of 0.3-0.4 lbs per week eating as follows:

- 1200 cals on days I don't exercise (rare - maybe once a week)

- about 1400 cals on days I do exercise (I don't lift - I just run, I'm up to about 13 miles a week plus I also walk on some of the other days)

- I take a "cheat" meal about 2-3 times a week. This is when we eat out at a restaurant. I'm generally careful about what I order, but I will splurge and loosen up a bit, maybe split dessert, etc, so on these days I probably go up to about 1600 which is probably right around my maintenance level.

So my range is from 1200 to 1600.

Years ago when I was running more and lifting 5x's a week, I got down to 13% body fat but weighed closer to 120 lbs (yet my measurements were just a bit smaller than what they are right now, because I was very lean and had more muscle). In those days, I estimate I could easily eat 2000-2500, no problem!!

It's huge motivation to get back into lifting, which I plan to do in September after our vacation, but I probably won't ever get back into it at the level I used to do. (not much interest in hanging out in a gym all day).  But I would like to be able to have more cushion with my calorie allowance once I go on to maintenance.

If you are having 3500 calorie cheat days because you're starving to death, it sounds like you need more calories than 1500!!
thanks everyone!!!!

currently I am drinking 2 gallons of water a day and I have worked out religiously for years......I have lost 25-30 pounds over that time......but I still dont have the ultimate body i want =-( I guess we are all our own worst enemies right?
Eat 2000 cals a day of the right things here and there i cheat but never over eat...... its takes time to loose wieght ...... just be consistent with your eatingg habits and workout......... you should be loosing 2 pounds per week so to loose 20 pounds its going take 3 months.... Just stick to it..... even if you dont see the wieght go down dont worry your loosing fat and gainin msucle. the only way to know your improving is see how you fit into your clothes...... if your the same weight and fit into your clothes better that means its working....... dont  give up and dont go hungry and most important dont over do it.........
I'm 5'4", around 106 pounds, and I eat 1000 NET a day and burn 200-300 5 days a week. I'm upping to 1100 though.
5'8", 215, sedentary. Eat 1500 cals a day. Sometimes go over calories, sometimes walk (not always on same days!). Losing about 2 lbs a week.
5"6

132 lbs or so

I eat around 1300-1400 calories a day

I have had super slow weight loss and have been on a plateau for around 3 weeks.  Have even gained a little back.

I also work out around 3x or more a week.
I am 5'1-2" and currently weigh 109 lbs (yay!)

I have been trying to keep to 1200 since May 1st but it's tough so my monthly average ends up being 1450-1500 a day. BEcause I was recently stalled at 111 lbs, lately i have been doing Fri-Sat-Sun at 1500-2000 then 4 weekdays at 1200ish. I am back to losing!
I'm 5'5" about 172 lbs, eat between 1,200 and 1,300 calories a day, pretty sedentary, though I do walk at least 3 to 4 times a week for about 30 minutes. Not making much progress :(
I weigh 143lbs and am 5' 1" tall.

I eat about 1000 calories on a day when I'm sedentary, and up to 1500 when I'm active.  I eat a variety things, most meats, most veggies, some fruit and I usually eat some low fat dairy every day.

At most I exercise for half an hour a day, six days a week.

With this type of routine, I've lost 20lbs in 16 weeks.  The weight loss is kind of slow, but I prefer it that way, so that it's easier to keep it off when I finish losing the additional 20lbs.
