pls convince me yoghurt is healthy.......
i am recovering from anorexia and struggle with any dairy..... im craving it thou and i think i need it.......
please does any one know if its good........./what kind ect?
are there ne vitamins?
Oh my gosh - yogurt is so awesome! Unless you get, like, gogurt or something.
I suggest the Dannon Light & Fit; 110 calories per one cup! They have little servings packs that're 50-60 calories per cup, depending on the flavor. They all taste great.
Yogurt keep you full due to the protein, provides loads of calcium and is super good for digestion because of the probiotics. It's super healthy for you. Eat up. :D
A superb snack or dessert is Greek Yoghurt (rather thicker and creamier tasting) with runny honey and toasted almond slices on the top. Fabulous.
Not sure if this is counter productive if you are recovering from an eating disorder.. but weight watchers makes a very tastey yogurt that is only 58cal/cup. Its a great snack - or a yummy breakfast if you throw in a handful of blueberries or raspberries!
I've just started eating dairy again after cutting out sooooooooo many food groups (very very stupidly!) and I have to say that Mullerlight is AMAZING but I'm not sure if you can get it in the US (I'm in the UK) because it gives you 31-33% of your recommended calcium intake. You need to have at least 1000mg of calcium every day so that you don't get osteoporosis and other horrible problems with your bones in later life.
But basically yoghurt is a GREAT source of calcium, whatever type you eat, so go on - have some! Honestly, you're body NEEDS calcium - it can't make it itself - and if you're craving it that's probably got something to do with it.
Grab a pot and enjoy :)
I second the mullerlight thing! It's amazing! If you're finding it hard to break yourself back in (i know i found it really hard) try a low fat natural probiotic yoghurt. They're high in protein and calcium and excellent for your digestive system! I've got an easyo yoghurt maker, nothing can beat homemade yoghurt except perhaps mullerlights.... mmmmm
If you want the yoghurt, have it, spek! The calcium in it will help your bones and the cultures in it will help your digestion like jane has said. I also strongly second her greek yoghurt suggestion - it has a higher protein content than most yoghurts, is lovely and thick, and is delicious with the toppings given. But, if you can, eat whole fat. Not half or no-fat. Your recovering body will need the nutrition from the fats as well to help itself rebuild.
oikos greek plain yogurt. its ballin
This is how I look at yogurt. It's made up with live enzymes, which is why it's so good for you! Those enzymes are like these little helper friends that you want to put in your digestive tract! They help with all sorts of things in there, but they mostly just help with digestion. Don't you want those little guys in your body? Imagine them like little friends. :) Haha. When your body's natural supply of them runs out, yogurt is what replenishes it! Make sure it's a live and active culture, though; none of that Go-Gurt stuff.
Most women need to talk a calcium supplement because they don't get enough in their diets. Yogurt is a great way to get some of this calcium! =)You don't want to star breaking bones, do you?
Not to mention it helps regulate your digestive system. I like Dannon's strawberry banana (the best flavor, claims my boyfriend, and I think he's right.) Their light falvors aren't too bad either.
Enjoy it!
Eat it! Yogurt is great as everyone above has mentioned. If you're craving something, it's usually because your body needs it!
I hope I dont offend anyone by asking this because I am only asking out of curiosity not meaning to offend. But I noticed there were 3 people on this post who said at some point they had stopped eating dairy all together and I was wondering why. I have to say that I don't particularly like dairy foods, its a struggle for me to find any dairy foods that I do like, I dont like white milk and chocolate has so many calories, I can't stand the tang of yogurt, and I don't like cheese so for me its hard but it has never occured to me to just quit because I am a nursing student and I realize how important calcium is for later in life. You have to get that extra calcium stored up in your bones. Anyway I don't want to offend I'm just curious as to the reason why any of you quit dairy all together.
Just thought I'd throw this in as an aside: calcium is critical! No one in my family has ever broken a bone, and I truly believe it's because we drink milk at every meal. Loads of calcium! We are all extremely athletic as well, so it's not because we don't get out much. It's because of our strong bones!
Agwin: I am lactose intolerant.
And I just reread. If you don't consume dairy it is vital you get your calcium from somewhere else, like I do. I use a combination of a full multivitamin, and then plant based and other sources. Spek, this may be helpful to you too given your being in recovery still, as calcium will be vital in helping with any bone trouble you may have.

Vitamin D aids with calcium absorption. Oily fish, such as herring, catfish, salmon, mackerel, sardines, pilchards, and tuna all provide natural vitamin D. So do eggs. Pilchards also contain calcium. And, of course, Vit D comes from the sun - so perhaps eat your calcium-rich foods al fresco. 8D
So even if you don't like dairy, it's easy to get calcium from other places. But if you can eat dairy I recommend that you do, as it is also a vital source. Sorry if I went on a bit of a tangent!

Don't be scared, indulge! You can also throw your yogurt (usually plain or vanilla) in the blender with some fruit and make a nice smoothie. YUM!!
I think a smoothie is a good idea. If it was good, it was good for a reason. Something good AND healthy simply can't be bad for you. =)
wow, i eat regular organic whole milk yogurt, either goatmilk or cow milk. and mix in some chocolate sunflower seeds or almonds or some jelly and its delicous
Don't think of the yogurt as something bad, think of it as super food, or great fuel.
It has protein, live enzymes, just enough carbs to be good for you body...It's delicious and smooth and helps your body in countless ways!
In fact, women who consume yogurt regularly, might weigh less than those who don't! So don't be afraid that this food will make you fat...It'll make you HEALTHY.
Many people in other countries, many around the Mediterranean, make yogurt a central part of their diets. Yogurt was a great way to preserve milk before refrigeration. My mother worked for an Armenian family when I was a baby. They gave my mom a yogurt starter that she kept going for years. So, I was raised on it, and still love it. I buy the plain in the largest containers I can find, 1/2 gallon. My whole family eats it practically every day. Many people who are lactose intolerant can eat yogurt because the bacteria in the yogurt changes the composition of the milk by consuming the milk sugar (lactose). That's why it's sour. The thick greek-style yogurt can be used just like sour cream. You can use it for dips, sandwich spread, salad dressing (both fruit and vegetable), etc. You can see I'm a big fan. I used to make it for my family when my children were small. But now I'm too lazy!
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
