Plus Size Clothing

Quote  |  Reply

I was wondering if there was anyone here from the New York City area.  I'm heading to the city just after the Christmas holidays (I know that's far away but I am a planner lol) and want to get some shopping done.  I was wondering if anyone could recommend some stores that sell decent, fashionable plus size clothing.  I know the usual department stores like Macy's, Lane Bryant, (can't afford Bloomingdales).  I'm aware there are Ashley Stewart stores?  We don't have them in Canada.  I've checked out there website and clothes seem decent enough fashion wise.  Is there one of those stores that is better than the rest? If anyone has any recommendations that would be great.

Hoping to have 30 pounds off by the time I leave.  I will still be plus size, but it will be a better experience with 30 pounds off I'm sure.  Can't wait until I'm a skinny bitch lol.

See if there is a Catherine's there.  Clothes are nice mid-range prices.  They have an online site, maybe there is a store finder.

Thanks texmom52.  I'll have to check out their website.  I'm from Canada, and in my area there is NOTHING for plus sized clothing.  We have a Reitman's, which if you are thin carries decent stuff for decent prices.  We also have a Penningtons, but their clothes are awful.  It's either potato sack city clothes for grandma's or really tacky ugly stuff for teenagers.  Horrible.  Addition-Elle is nice, but they're about 4.5 hrs away and I live on an island so lol.  I could order online from them, but the hassel of having to send things back and shipping/etc isn't worth it.

I visit my brother who lives in NY on occassion, and when I do I buy as much as I can to take back lol.  I love Macy's, and they have good sales.  But I'm a student so it's hard to get stuff there unless it's on sale.  As much as I am doing this journey for my health, there is much a part of me that is doing it for vanity lol.  Can't wait to wear a size 7 again lol.

Well...when you do you can change your name to jskinnyr.

I shop at Catherines and they have the best clothes for plus size ladies, great quality and pretty good prices. They're fashions are great as well and appeal to young and older women. They are also true to size. They cater to body shapes as well.

I went to their store locator and found one near NY. If you are interested.

Morning Vals,

Have a nice day.  How nice of you to check it out for her.

Thank you so much vals!  I appreciate that.  I'll have to check it out on google, and see how far it is.  My brother doesn't have a car, but if it's within train travel distance maybe.

Love the nick texasmom - jskinnyr.  All in time eh?  Had a great workout tonight at the gym.  It helps being able to set smaller goals - 30 pounds by New Years as opposed to 130 pounds altogether!

One Word:

TORRID

Seriously check out www.torrid.com

They have clothes for work, clubbing, formals and casual. Oh! They also have undies, bras, PJs and all your sexies. Seriously, I swear by Torrid. They have to be shipping to Canadia (^_^) by now. They've been around nearly 10 years. Started out as the fat girls' Hot Topic but now that is only a part of what they do.

Fashion Bug is my favorite place to go. It's actually owned by the same people that own Lane Bryant and Catherine's, but the price point is way lower. Plus, I think the clothes there are lot more suited to my style. Catherine's and Lane Bryant are more for professionals.

I second the motion on Torrid. I LOVE Torrid. And as a former resident of Canada, I feel your pain. I lived in Kingston, ON for two years (moved back to the US a few months ago) and after checking out the only options - Penningtons (ick), Addition-Elle (not as ick but not so great) and Cotton Ginny (double ick) - I started just buying Torrid and LB when I was back in the US on vacation, and only shopping at Old Navy in Canada.
