Maintaining
Moderators: iae

It's 10pm, I've only had 1700 cal, I'm supposed to have 2100 cal per day - eat or not?

I'm unsure if I should eat something to get my goal of 2100 calories per day to maintain my weight. I had an easy work out tonight, and when I got home, I was just tired, and didn't feel like eating. I walked the dog instead, cleaned, and now I entered all my food, and realize I only had about 1700 calories today.

And I did the same thing yesterday.

I'm supposed to go running with a friend tomorrow morning - 3-4 miles.

Should I eat something then go to sleep? Or just skip eating? I'm 37 y.o., 5'4", 119 lbs, and I'm not looking to lose weight, just maintain.

Thanks.

Eat it.  the more I play with CC and total calories, the more I realize that the amount of calories you eat is more important than when you eat it.  It keeps your body from going to starvation mode.  I have read several articles recently confirming this.  I know the standard rule is not eating after a certain time, but that has not held true (in my case at least).

At the same time, you need to be careful what you eat.  A bunch of chips versus yogurt is obviously not going to work.  I think cereal will also be good.  For example, I just read this on menshealth.com ( i Understand you are not a male):

"Eat a combination of carbohydrates and protein 30 minutes before you go to bed. The calories are more likely to stick with you during sleep and reduce protein breakdown in your muscles, says Kalman. Try a cup of raisin bran with a cup of skim milk or a cup of cottage cheese and a small bowl of fruit. Eat again as soon as you wake up. "The more diligent you are, the better results you'll get," says Kalman."

mange!

IMHO, don't eat.
you're not going to go into starvation mode after one day on 1700 calories. go to sleep and then wake up tomorrow and have a good, healthy breakfast. also, figure out why you got to 10pm and only ate 1700 cals. good luck!

You're better off eating than not. If you are hungry, then eating something small, like a slice of toast with 1 tsp of natural honey, and some hot tea. The hot tea will make you relaxed, and you'll fall soundly asleep in no time. It works for me.
