PMS and losing weight

Quote  |  Reply

I am so frustrated.  I started counting my calories and working out about 4 days ago.  Now I don't expect to see results right away, but I'm feeling really frustrated.

I'm sure it's just my hormones that's making this suck more than it does lol.  And I'm sure (or hoping!) that its just bloating, but I've gained 2 pounds!!

I'm more just irritated right now and needed to vent.

Do any of you have this problem?  Should I be feeling this way, or should I maybe just start over after my period?

Just try to stay on course.  We burn more calories during our periods so this is actually an opportunity to lose more.  If you can fight the cravings that is.  The extra weight is a false reading due to water retension and you should notice that it will be gone is a few days plus a little more.

So do a lot of people see a pretty big weight loss after they're through their period? I just realized it's my PMS week, which I should have figured out given the amount I've been eating (and even more so wanting to eat!!), but I've actually stayed the same weight as I was when I weighed-in on Monday. So should I be expecting to see some sort of weight loss either this Monday when I weigh-in again, or the Monday after?

I realize it's different for everyone and also depends on my activity and eating levels, but that'd be super cool if I got to see a drop in my weight! Laughing

I am a bear when it is PMS week for me and it usually happens two weeks before my period.  I get really bloated and feel like I am holding a lot of water. then a week after my period I feel like everything goes away.  Needless to say that only leaves about a week or so I feel like a normal person unless I take Estroven PMS.  It is a natural OTC supplement that helps all of that!  I notice with it I don't see that huge flucuation in water weight.  That reminds me ....I need to buy some more!

Anyway, every woman is different, but as a census we all see the scale go up and down during that time!

Read somewhere that during our PMS time,it's best not to trust whatever our weighing scales shows and get upset over it.. It could be water retention and bloating that makes one extra grumpy and fat.. I would normally eat more unhealthy food before and after my menses so those 7-10 days can really makes my weight yo yo like crazy.. If I consume less salty stuffs before my menses,I would get flatter tummy but if I consume more,it would be the other way round.. Can buy clothes before but never during my menses for it wouldn't be correct.. My bf has a really good way of getting my grumpiest down.. He would give my tummy a circular rub with his palms til I doze off.. When I wake up,I feel much better.. If I need to eat more than normal,he would order different varieties of food and share them with me.. I would have a few mouthful and pass the bowl over to him and he would polish them off.. That way I feel like I had a lot to eat but in actual fact,I wasn't.. Since my bf is fit and slim and tall,he can afford extra calories.. On normal days,he would tease me alot about my flabby areas and lightly pinch them but if I show any signs of annoyment,he would cuddle me in his arms..

I do believe that some where I read that you can gain 2-5 lbs in water weight during menses. I get really bloated and that causes breast and back pain. They (who ever THEY are ) say drink more water and get calcium but I really haven't seen that make a big dif. I do take Midol a few days before I am due and that helps. I get the kind for bloating and fatigue. Not every one likes Midol so this is not a product indorsement.

What does every one do about pms cravings?

I crave salt and sugar.

Dear tigerlily98,

Thank you very much for telling me about estroven pms. I am having problems twice a month due to my menstrual cycle and Ididn't know what to do. I will try your solution and see if it works for me. I'm tired of breaking my good eating habits due to craving of sugary and salty food. Also I hate to retain liquid and feel bigger than I am.

I felt massive during my last period. the usual bloating and water retention. And i was pretty content to just let it be and not make a fuss over it. I kept working out.. and i still am. But its been 2 weeks and i still feel bloated and grouss. I havent weighed myself...not into that. but i just feel like my stomach has gotten massive in the past 2 weeks.. and that my usual crunches and ab work at the gym are doing very little...

just a little bit sooky. x

I am also not into weighing myself ^.^

I also crave A LOT of salts and sometimes sweets. I also hate that we put on so much water weight during our monthly. I think that whenever we all have our monthlies, that gives us a good excuse to eat sweets and salts! Because we crave it and plus its only once a month!

So dont put yourself down if you see that you have gone up in weight alittle. It is just our water weight anyway! Tongue out

Before, I would blow up like a balloon during PMS. Since I'm what they call "petite", those extra 7 pounds would be VERY visible.

Since then, I have seen my doctor about it, and he has given me a couple of tips, I hope it will help you girls too ;)

1. Avoid salt at all means. Sodium chloride is the reason to which you retain all that water, and start blowing up.

2. Avoid candy to a minimum as well, and instead opt for healthier sugars. It is a known fact that a banana can relieve cramp pains.

3. Also avoid red meats, high-fat meals, and instead have more veggies, fruits and whole grain bread. This will make sure that you will continue passing stool as usual, instead of "keeping it all in" and feeling even more bloated.

4. Exercise more, stop stressing, and keep your tummy warm. Helps PMS pain.

5. Drink WATER. Not coffee or sodas. Sodas are full of sugar, and coffee constricts your vessels.

6. Drink some "draining herb tea". Helps you get rid of some of that extra water.

You might say "it's easy to for her to talk" or "I bet she's saying this, but not doing any of it" - trust me, it works wonders, and you won't even feel that grumpy.

What kind of tea?

You can try Caudalie Draining Tea Bags. If not, you can try to find some other brands in your favourite store.

They're just teas that promote the "drainage" of your body. In other words, they make you need to pee a lot, and therefore lose your water weight during PMS, thus making sure you're not so bloated.

Where are you from cause I never heard of that before in my life. I will ask the health food people though and thanks so much cause right now my stomach feels like its going to explode.Embarassed

I actually live in Europe (Italy to be more exact), but since I have family all over the place on the continent, and I have lived in a few countries, I know for sure that you can definitely get these teas in the UK, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Italy.

You can maybe try and order some online, for example:

I use Caudalie because I've been to their Health Spa in France and all their products are miracles to the body. They also promote the product as being "the perfect diet aid". It's all natural, and just herbs, no weird chemicals inside what so ever.

I enjoy drinking a herbal tea before going to sleep, with a book in my hand I sit down, and relax for a while. I think everybody should dedicate a half an hour to themselves, relaxing and feeling great.

I hope it helps Wink
