PMSing badly!!! exercising and eating right but gaining, about to lose motivation

Quote  |  Reply

So I've been exercising like crazy and eating my goal calories which is 1200 (I'm 5'4" 130lb) I am about to start my period in a few days and I've been weighing myself and the scale has been slowly climbing up about a half a pound every other day. I haven't weighed myself today b/c I just don't want to know.

Now i know that it's water retention and all of that stuff, but knowing that the scale is climbing makes me just want to eat whatever and not care, but I already feel disgusting and bloated eating good! I know it will only get worst if I eat horrible.

Someone please give me words of encouragement, and maybe advice on what to do or eat to feel better (besides exercising, I'm doing that already).

Add another 100-200 calories or even up to your daily maintenance while you're in PMS mode.  This won't take you over your maintenance, but it will give you a lot more leeway and help your mental sanity.

If you're exercising as well, you might want to eat more.  Your daily calorie deficit should not be more than 1,000 calories and 500 is really a more reasonable goal since you're at a normal weight for your height.

Girlfriend, don't even stress out over it. The vast majority of women gain between 1 and 10 pounds prior to and during their period. I was stressing over this recently, too, plus I looked pregnant from the insane bloating. We all go through it and we're all slightly different in how much we gain in water weight/ how long it lasts/ how many other symptoms we have. If I were you I would hide the scale until Aunt Flo has left. Most women lose the weight almost overnight as the menstrual action goes away. We are here for you!

Thanks for the advice you two! I'm going to take the advice, hide the scale and not worry about the temporary weight gain at all.
Something else that might encourage you to exercise:  abdonimal exercises, like crunches and certain yoga postures, can actually lessen cramping, escpecially in the long term.

I feel your pain! It's hard to handle especially when you have guy around who is losing weight easily and doesn't get it. Try this recipe. It helps me stay away from the bags of M & M 's I used to turn to!
