Poetry Challenge - can you make a haiku poem?

Quote  |  Reply

Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry that is easy to make.  Things don't have to rhyme, but instead rely on specific syllable patterns.  Are there any budding poets out there?  Why don't you share your diet/exercise/lifestyle jouney with others through haiku poetry.

The syllable pattern goes like this 5 - 7 - 5 for classic poems.  Haiku in languages other than Japanese often just goes for three short lines expressing something.  Often, Japanese will choose a theme and write poetry. One of the things which create interest in the poem is a contrast in ideas in such a few words.  There is also often an explanation of the background that led to a poem's being forming.

Example:  poem in 5 syllable, 7 syllable, 5 syllable rhythm followed by background information

    peanut butter jar

    calories much too high, but

    ahh, satisfaction

I was hungry and had just spent an hour jogging, so I wanted to eat something with protein.  The problem was as pay day appoaches, there is little to eat in the house except peanut butter.  It's a high calorie food that is pretty satisfying, and hey I ran, so why not indulge?

running in the rain

pitter patter on pavement

leaves me cool and slim

(I live in NC and we have been getting so much rain here... hurricane season is upon us!)

Yesterday I ate

some cheesecake, which made me want

more cheesecake today.

going to the store
i will gather healthy treats
no guilt when i eat.

Running in the rain

When I see the boy again

Skinny jeans must fit

I'm using my recent break-up as fuel to fodder my get-healthy fire.  Next time I run into him, I want to look even better than I did when we were together.  Plus, let's face it, running is the only time I can NOT think about how much I miss him...  Sigh.

I am now hungry

Cheetos call my name loudly

Orange are my fingers.

*It isn't Woodsworth but I guess it will do!*

Thanks for the fun idea!

Here we are again

My last five pounds won't leave,

But it's only five

I'm down to my last 5 pounds which are indeed the hardst to lose partially because I'm not as motivated. I've ben eating what I want for over a week, but I'm hoping to get back on track next week.

 the elliptical

sweat pouring and heart pounding

going nowhere fast

elliptical sits

i watch tv like a bum

no progress this way

To be thin again......

Is a  real challenge for me

But I will succeed!

Friday, at my desk

Staring at my computer

Man, I need a drink

It's friday, i've been cooped up in the office since 9am.  Neither of my bosses are here so i've had no work and have been staring at this stupid computer screen all day.  I really need a drink...

Early Morning Light

Shines Brightly Into My Room

Pissed, I close The Blinds

These are all wonderful haiku.  I especially like zxenn's haiku because it has a neat twist of the meaning at the end.  Haiku often have words which are "turning" words linking two dissimilar ideas in a new and unique way.

Today's haiku.

Running three kilos

Amazing progress for me

One minute faster

I started the beginner "Couch potato to 5K" running program on CC+ two months ago.  Running one minute was pretty tough, and five of those in one jog/walk training were even tougher.  Today, I ran almost the entire three kilometers of my interval training and cut my time to 7 minutes 8 seconds - exactly one minute faster than I trained last week.  Those training programs are awesome.

Thank you kyashiis, I love words and creative writing is a hobby.

Here's my haiku for the day:

Thirty pounds vanished

In the dressing room mirror

Smiles reappear

aw... no one is playing?

So hungry today

Is it food or love I need?

Cannot fill me up

Today's haiku...

Nine kilometers

around the track - jog, jog, jog

waist and hips go down

I jogged in the morning and checked my progress in losing centimeters since the last time I measured.  I lost a total of 10 centimeters (about 4 inches) mainly off my waist and hips.

Haiku poetry

oh I have tried many times

but too many syl.......ab...les

darn it!

monday's haiku:

i will run tonight.
at least forty five minutes.
gotta break a sweat.

Another day, another haiku...

Looking back over

 thirteen weeks of dieting

  A steep learning curve

I am on week 13 of using CC+, so I thought I would gather my thoughts on how it has been going over the past few weeks - what works for me, my weaknesses, etc. in my journal entry for today.

Tired and Annoyed

weight loss has slowed to a stop

Too fat for platue!!!!
