What is the point if there is no point?
Of us being here...
Regardless of what you do and don't believe religious wise what do you believe is the point of the human race...why do we exist?
Surely the answer to that is not just so we can die? death and taxes are the only two things which are guaranteed in this world.
Are we here to serve a purpose?
if so what do you think that purpose is?
what do you believe the ultimate goal of that purpose is?
Do you believe that once you're dead that is it?
If so what point is there to you ever being born?
If you believe that there is an after life, what do you believe happens once you are there? sit around drinking beers and chatting about what life had been like for you?
Perhaps you believe in reincarnation?
What reason do you think there is for that? why would you be sent back to this world?
Whatever you do believe happens after death do you think the same applies to animals?
This raised my curiosity after comments i read in another thread. This is not a religious debate as such just a debate on why you think this planet as it is exists.
I believe we are like ants. We are born, we live our lives, and then we die. There is no point to the human race. We are just another species.
This website answers all of your questions in the way that I believe is true, and it brings me peace because I know there is a purpose to my life, and I know that there is a purpose to yours.

Human beings as a species are overly obsessed with finding "deeper meaning" and "reasons" for things. If we found a "purpose" to life, what would be the "purpose" of that purpose? Why does everything have to "mean" something, and how would you even define that when it comes to existence? The universe is its own purpose, and I'd rather spend my life enjoying it because I have no reason to think I'll get another one.
Oh boy. Well here we go again. I'm going to crawl back under my rock.
Edit: this was in reply to the mormon post
There is no meaning to existence other than the meaning we give it. Life is absurd.
"I leave Sisyphus at the foot of the mountain! One always finds one’s burden again. But Sisyphus teaches the higher fidelity that negates the gods and raises rocks. He too concludes that all is well. This universe henceforth without a master seems to him neither sterile nor futile. Each atom of that stone, each mineral flake of that night filled mountain, in itself forms a world. The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man’s heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy.” - Camus
These religious threads are getting out of control. There's already a thread on this. "GOD...Whats ppls beliefs," is the actual title. Everyone is answering the same questions you asked.
Religion/Personal Philosophy is a touchy subject. Stop touching it!
I don't think there is a purpose - we are just a species on a planet in the vastness of space but we are a species that is really special!
Our brains know of our mortality. We think, we love, we discover!
Our purpose is what we want it to be - to grow and learn? to love? to do for others? to just live? for as long as we can until Earth decides that it's tired of the parasite on it's back and shakes us all off! I think when we die we just die... but we had one hell of a ride!
We are here to destroy the planet. We're doing a good job so far.
God created this planet for us to take care of for him, is that not what we do? do you try to destroy it or care for it? But believing all these so called scientists and their THEORY'S and not facts on what we are doing to Gods planet is also destroying it. God gives us the knowledge to tend to his land but do we?
Simply put, I believe there MUST be a reason to being here, cause if there wasn't one, why would it be w/in human nature to search for one?
I find that the Bible explains why we're here, and it's ideas make sense to me.
My main answer + humble opinion: Many people (not saying the majority of the world or anything), including I, believe we're here to praise/exalt God (with our actions, thoughts, deeds, and taking care of our bodies).
Answer to other questions;
I believe once your body is dead, that's it, but the soul is eternal.
I also believe that sitting around drinking beers and chatting for eternity seems like it could get old after a while. I think it (afterlife for those who accept Christ's death+resurrection in order to make peace with God) is more than 100 times better than the avg person could imagine it.
And i don't really have an opinion on animals, even though i love my dog.
And although i just did some preaching there, i COMPLETELY understand people being bugged by it (and the mormon website post, and the ranting man). The question was asked, and i answered it with my opinion.

This thread is not about religion although it has been brought in, it is simple...
What do you think the point if any is for the planet being here, what if any is the point of us and what if anything happens after death.
If you don't like the thread then bog off and don't take part in it.
Quite surprised that the majority so far think we are just here till we die then that's it...

Dang I'm going to sound like a nutter going by the answers so far! ;)
but here it is...
I do believe there has to be a point I have no explantations or proof to it all but a pointless existance to me is just that pointless and if this is the case then we should all just top ourselves now.
I opt to believe that there are old and new spirits, new spirits replace the ones who have achieved their purpose for being here old ones are the ones who are sent back because they haven't got it right yet.
What happens to the spirits which got it right I have no idea.
I think we are here to learn to do the hardest thing in my opinion and that is to love ourselves as we are, not in a sickening way such as thinking you are the great "I am" but to love yourself for the flaws you have.
Until you truly do you can not have love, acceptance and understanding of others for what are seen to be their flaws too.
These flaws come in many guises from colour, religion, sexual orientation, disability, lack of education, physical differences etc.
If you don't love your own how can you love others...
Nothing what so ever to do with religion I just need to believe that there is a reason and this is it.

Yeah I think that's all there is to it. We're no different than, say, ants.

Read The Myth of Sisyphus!! You might really like it.
Well I think either way has it's beauty.
If we are just here, well then being here is remarkable. If there is no purpose but we can still feel moved by sunsets & enlivened by music, well then F me! If we came from practically nothing into this something & then if that is the case we will go back to nothing. I don't know, sounds romantic & emptying to me.
Or if there is some sort of purpose out there, then again that is remarkable. Something guiding, making us long for something greater than ourselves & work towards something.
And I think ants are pretty remarkable.
I think the "something greater than ourselves" is actually all of us united as a whole. Perhaps Utopia is when each and everyone of us are working and living together, harmoniously.
Neo, there is a difference between walking the path and knowing the path.
EDIT: previous typo on walking, as usual for me
