Pole Dancing

Does anyone here take pole dancing classes as a way of exercise? I heard it can make you really toned and it's also a fun way to lose weight...anyone?

never took "lessons" but i was a dancer for several years and it definately made a difference in my body. I would recommend it. The shoes are an important part in my opinion. Constantly having to balance yourself works your muscles all the time. The more pole tricks you can learn the more you will use your upper body. If you don't immediately look like a "stripper" don't beat yourself up too much and remember those girls generally work in eight hour shifts...and they are working out their bodies the entire time. So that intense of a workout several days a week makes for a killer body, with regard to the classes....all in all I think it is a great idea.

P.S. it is a lot of fun.

I LOVE pole class! There is such an adrenaline rush when you finally master a trick! You barely realize that you are working as hard as you are!

I've never done it, but I really want to.  I did some google searching however and the closest place to me I can find is over an hour away.  I guess I'm not supposed to ever take a class like this. Cry  Oh well back to the weights and the elliptical I guess....

Hey, you can always buy one for at home ;) I think 'exotic dancing' classes are starting to sweep the country... I think it will end up being like yoga. Try searching the Y and various gyms for stripper aerobics. It may not be a pole class, but it will give you the flavor of it!

How much are your pole classes? I just looked around here and it's $180 for a 5-week session, once a week for 60 mins. That comes out to $36/hr! Seems a bit steep for a group class...

I think the ones here are like $50 an hour, around there :( But i wanna try atleast 1 to see how it is

I 'm a fan and I support this thread Money mouth

mine are drop in classes and are between $5-9 per class (depending on how many classes you buy at once) but I know that in other parts of the country it is much more expensive! My sister was just out visiting me and I took her to pole class with me and she loved it... She found a place close to her but it is $85 for 6 classes Surprised I would suggest going in to the place and asking whether they have any intro or trial class to see if you like it. It can't hurt to ask and you may get a free class out of it! For me, I would probably pay the exorbent price (and seriously, I am not rich, I am a grad student) just because it is such a great workout and it gives you a lot of extra confidence!

I've never done pole dancing-but I'm currently doing belly dancing.  I love it because with dance you get so focused on the moved you're doing that you forget how hard you're working.

i really want to try pole dancing,  but unfortunately the place by me has a weight limit for the pole and i'm still above it. they have other exotic dancing classes too, but i really wanted to do the pole dancing. :-( oh well, eventually i will!!

even just walking in heels everyday will tone the legs. but the pole is a great idea. never thought about it. try it. let us know ;)

I do take pole dancing classes and exotic dance classes (I was a ballerina for 16 years) I definitely take it as workout and it is a lot of fun. I love it  ;-)

And the advantage is that you can use it outside the classe at home with your hubby  girlz  ;-)

And for M.eddipotter, just out of curiosity I would dare you to try one of those classes and come back with your comments, just to see if you could last through the whole class !!  hi hi !! Here where i live there are classes like that for men too you know ....

Have a nice day  ;-)

I took a belly dance class once, it was fun. I like the skirts with the bells and the ones you use to dance, it makes it more fun :)
