Pomergranates. does anyone else like them?
I'm trying to buy different foods and bought a pomergranate and it was so good. Sweet, but tart. I couldn't even finish the whole thing. Next time I'll add the seeds to a salad.

I love pomegranates, they're really yummy and they take a really long time to eat. Kind of messy though. They're also really good for you - in fact here's an article my husband emailed me this morning about them. This article talks about a study done where pomegranates seem to help osteoarthritis, among other benefits.

thanks megan: The store had a big bin of them. I didn't know they were a fall fruit, or that healthy.
a little messy, but after cutting it in half was able to bend and break it apart and easily peeled it apart to get seeds. In fact it was so filling I couldn't finish the entire thing.

I love the juice but everytime I eat one it makes my teeth dry out and squeeky...sometimes cooked fresh spinach does that too,but they are apperantly a superfood enjoy!
LOVE them! I wish they were a year-round fruit (and not so pricey!) - yeah, a bit messy, but fun to eat (just don't wear anything white!!)
MMMMMM...we have a pomegranate tree, so around this time of year, we're drowning in them. If you want a slightly less messy way to get the seeds out, gently split the outer rind with a knife (without cutting all the way through the fruit). Then submerge the whole fruit in a big bowl of water and gently pry it apart. Pop all the seeds out while your hands are under the water. The rind and pith (white part) will float to the top and the seeds should sink, so you can just skim off the waste and eat the seeds. Plus, no spurting red stains on your clothes.
IM so glad that you can find good ones. I spent 2.25 on one and it was 75% brown on the inside eeeww!!! Havent got the guts to try again.... there expensive
I love pomegranates.. I've been eating them my whole life.. This is the best time for them, so enjoy them.
reauvageot: wow, glad for the hint as I'll be eating lots of these. Are you in California or the south. These are a US product. If I had a tree I'm probably learn to make juice and can it or freeze it if that wouldn't spoil the health benefits.
getfit: I would have bagged it and taken it back. I get so annoyed when that happens. I can stand it once in awhile, but I've had spells where it happens a couple of times a week and then I'm annoyed. Once cottage cheese was green and mouldy and once 2 days after buying potaotes there was a horrible smell in my kitchen and it was a rotten potato........phew.
got mine at Walmart and they all just looked so perfect I took a chance.
dianka: very unusual taste, right. Nice change from my normal foods

I love them!
eat then with some black pepper or even in salads.
so yummy!
yum yum, love them
The seeds are great sprinkled in pilafs-gives it a nice sweetness and texture. Not to mention added fiber!
i just bought one tonight. does anyone know how many calories are in them? i dont have a scale, but all the ones in the store were about the same size.
liosa: you can find the calories on the food list using the tools here. Calories were 105.
I just "discovered" them last year (I'm 30!) and I eat 1/2 of one every day while they're in season. I totally grossed out my 3rd grade class-they thought it looked like I was eating alien guts....but being kids and totally curious, they went out and begged their parents to buy them. Guess what!? We're now enjoying poms as part of our healthy morning snack time (I let them eat a healthy snack in the morning). Kind of crazy to see 8 year olds going nuts over something they thought was alien guts.
txhartford: how cute! It's great to start kids young, trying new healthy foods. Next time I'm doing the underwater thing above. I hope the "season" lasts for awhile.
