First of all let me profess one thing;

I LOVE POP-TARTS.

I ate two tonight (sigh) , and although they were not as amazing as I remembered, I still do adore them. I have two questions:

a. what exactly is the outside made of? I like it not being overly sweet, and I searched for "pastry crust" and such but couldn't find anything that seemed right

b. Does anyone know of a recipe? Id like to use fresh fruit like figs or some sugar free preserves and make my own. That way I wouldn't be so apt to eat crazy amounts if I knew all the work it took to make them. Fiber one has new ones, however 16g of sugar and 190 calories doesn't seem like that big of an improvement to me...

Thanks guys!

lol i always find my mouth watering for a pop tart until i actually eat it and, and then its, like you said, not really as good as i remember. especially the choclately ones--the fruit ones are much better!

probably my least favorite part of living in a city is that my "treat" foods dont need to be kept in my house for me to have such easy access to them. just at the 7-11, 30 seconds out my door! i find it MUCH harder to resist cravings this way.

Pop tarts are evil!! My boyfriend always has them in the house, and I never really ate them before. I grabbed a package one morning when I was running late and forgot to check the cals. I checked when I got home and almost had a heart attack. 400 cals for one package? Oh dear, I can think of several things I'd rather spend 400 cals on! Wink They weren't even that good lol!

I haven't had a pop-tart in over a decade. My sister and I used to seek out the vanilla filled ones cause they were difficult to find. It was like  gold when we found it. Yummers!

There are probably many if you google it, but here's one that I found a while ago.

However, even though you get to choose your own unique fillings, my experience was me concluding that I would just go the easier route and buy the things. (Combination of me not being the best baker, limited time, and laziness.)

I haven't had a pop tart in ages, mostly because if I have a choice and I'm going to indulge, I prefer Toaster Strudels.  Smile

I checked out the link from sanonacci.  The recipe looks simple enough, but doesn't give nutritional info on it.  You can analize the ingredients here, but why bother.  If I really, really had to have Pop Tarts, so buy some redi to bake crusts in the diary aisle.  They list the nutrition levels and many have recipes inside the box for items such as tarts.  At least you can get the info about the crust from the box--you're on your own for the filling tho (hope it's yummy!)

The recipe in #4 looks about right. Pop tarts are just a pretty basic pie dough.

I have a love hate relationship with them, love them but they are so high calorie.

The Whole grain strawberry ones are atleast somewhat better I guess, my #1 fav is probably the Smores (reminds me of childhood)
