hi all.
i am eating a lot of popcorn these days as a filling snack .... and was wondering if you folks had any suggestions as to what to have on it.
i eat it plain so far, but would like to try something different ...
Any ideas??
I prefer garlic powder or garlic salt (depending on if it was popped with salt or not).
For spiciness, I like Original Juan's Fire Salt or some chili powder.
I have been eating popcorn intermittently since I first cut teeth. I used to in the bad good old days pour gallons of real butter and bushels of salt on it. I don't use either any more.
I like to pop my popcorn in EVOO using my StirCrazy. I use 1 tb. of oil (120 calories of which around 1/4th are left in the popper and 3 tbs. of dry popcorn)
However, I have also found that Orville Redenbacher's 94% free is a good alternative.
What to put on my EVOO popcorn?
Grated parmesan cheese?
A tiny sprinkling of Italian seasoning?
Homemade cinnamon kettle corn:
- Drizzle on 1 tsp of agave nectar (honey would work too, but agave is better)
- Sprinkle on some kosher salt to taste
- Sprinkle on cinnamon to taste
- Shake it all together
I like it plain but I have used the spray margarine and added cinnamon and a drizzel of honey(just a touch)
i live in the UK, so don't have access to Orville redenbacher ..... still not sure what EVOO is!!!! like the cheese idea though.
and the honey and cinnamon, genius!!
i have a popcorn maker which pops it with hot air, so i have to find things that you add on afterwards
some good ideas folks. X
Extra Virgin Olive Oil -- which I try to get two-four tablespoons of each day, although it is high in calories = 120 per tablespoon.
!!!! just saw you write it in your other post! and i googled rachel ray to see who you'd been getting it from!!!!
good idea on including it in your diet though, i have it on salads
yummy.
(that face is me licking my lips at the food- not sticking my tongue out to you!!!!! )
I am guessing that if you could see me, you WOULD stick your tongue out at me. Generally, women do that, the younger the more often. Men on the other hand, I get the bird, the younger the men, the more often. LOLOLOLOLOL

I have been eating the Orville 100 cal kettle corn with a handful of raisins thrown in. Pretty yummy!
edit to add... You can use any type of kettle corn
I like the 100 calorie microwave popcorn and have it several times a week. It's a very filling, but low calorie snack and it's just the right amount of food when I get hungry in the evening.
I prefer the EVOO StirCrazy popcorn with no sodium, but I have also found that Redenbacher's Light Movie Theatre Popcorn is tasty on occasion and reasonably healthy -- or at least not terribly unhealthy. I agree that it is nice Orville put out those 100 calorie bags. The light theater is 300 calories and the 94% is 240 calories for about 3 times as much popcorn.
A friend of mine puts a little cumin, chili powder, and a dash of cayenne pepper on hers... It's wicked good!
Dang! I am looking at 3 boxes of microwave popcorn as I read this thread about popcorn. Now, I need to get my walk in...and that popcorn is starting to pop in my head....
I wish. Popcorn is high glycemic meaning it makes your sugar spike cause more fat storage than a low glycemic food so I am jealous. this will sound really strange I know but if you like chocolate ice cream just try it. take a scoop of ice cream and dip a kernel of popcorn in and eat. It's a weird thought but oh so good.
ice cream, by the way is lower glycemic than popcorn- who would of thunk it?
I don't know if they have it in the UK, but in the US they make seasonings specifically for popcorn. It's probably not the healthiest thing, but they're low/no calorie and taste delicious! I use the white cheddar flavor! I'm actually eating a 100 cal popcorn with some of that on it right now! ;-)
as we speak i'm eating popcorn with cinnamon and sugar.
i also like to spray the spray butter on it and sprinkle cheese on it
you can melt the laughing cow wedges and kind of pour it on for a cheesy treat!!
popcorn is also a very healthy food in terms of fiber--just maybe some of us should lay off the butter and salt??????????
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
butter and salt. (wipes drawl from mouth with sleeve!!!)

What fun would that be? There's a quote in Terry Pratchett's book Moving Pictures that sums it up perfectly:
"If you put butter and salt on it, it tastes like salty butter!"
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
