I just bought some mini bags of orvile redenbacker kettle corn.  The box says unpopped, 240 calories, popped 35 calories.  Here on CC the only choice I have is to add the 240 calorie count because i don't get a popped option.

Why is there such a difference in calories between popped and unpopped and why do we need the unpopped option since I don't know anyone who eats unpopped corn.

Does anyone know the right calorie count?  Thanks for any help!

fraid I dunno the answer.. but I like your title :) Maybe just enter it manually from the box?
Hehehehe... your thread title cracks me up. =) The information for popped calories should have a measurement associated with it. (For example, 1/2 cup, 1 cup...). I know that the popcorn I used to buy provided nutritional information on just half the bag. It's a nasty little marketing trick.

I don't know why you would want to know the unpopped calories, maybe some strange person out there loves unpopped popcorn! Who knows!!

If you can not find the product in the Calorie-Count.com database, you can always do a manual entry, then tag it for future use. You do this by going to the top menu, under Account, then Food Log.

There will be two options, you want to click on the hyperlink for the second option. "If you know the calorie content for a particular food, add it here using a small form." (You can also click on the shortcut hyperlink I just provided) VOILA!  =)
That is specifically the reason I get the 100 calorie mini bags. I don't have to count a thing, they're 100 calories! I'm in LOVE with those mini bags of kettle corn, totally addicted. I don't get the whole unpopped vs popped thing, way coRnfusing. hee hee  : )
The FDA requires the "unpopped" info (sarcastic remark about useless govt regulations edited ;-)

The difference between unpopped and popped is because there are a lot more kernals in 1 cup of unpopped popcorn than in one cup of popped popcorn. Popped popcorn is mostly just air.
i hate tricky food labels like popcorn. pumpkin seeds are even more evil, next to 20 mg sodium is an * and if you read the fine print the 20 mg of sodium is only if you break the seeds open and only eat the inside, otherwise it is 220 mg! yet all the other info assumes you would never be so silly to do that and only gives the whole seed facts.

i wish they would use common sense.
I get the large bags of Orville and one bag is 2 servings so its 220 calories for the 7 cups popped where as the bag contains 6 tablespoons and servings per container is 2 serving size is 3 tablespoons unpopped.

I have also started to pop my own in the microwave so I don't get the added sodium.  I put 3 tablespoons of kernals in the lunch size paper bag fold over the top a few times and put in microwave for about 2.5 minutes keep your eye on it so it doesn't start a fire.  The 3 tablepoons unpopped is worth 110 cals If I measured out how many cups I get it comes out to about the same.  To make it kettle corn just add a bit of splenda and salt.

I am cutting my salt so I just add a few sprays of I Can't beleive its not butter  so its almost fat free
