Popping and cracking joints

Quote  |  Reply

Okay, so I am in recovery from an ed and occasionally the joints in my shoulder and knees pop, especially when I work out.... Is this due to lack of calcium in times past or what. Could really use some insight.

By the way I am a 5 ft 5 in male at 125 lbs.

Are you drinking lots of water(minium 8 8oz glasses).  This could be dehydration.  It could also be from malnutrition befor you started the recovery process.

Joint popping/cracking happens when the bones at a joint are pulled apart, stretching the connective tissue and making gas bubbles form in the fluid capsule around the joint.  Release and 'pop'.  Means your joints and ligaments are very supple, most likely.  Work on strengthening & building up the surrounding muscles, warm up well before exercising and make sure you don't put your 'loose' joints under too much strain.

Hey thanks for responding.

jdunckel: The water thing is the first idea I thought of too. Thats why I started drinking up most to a gallon or so of water a day, to both hydrate my joints a b/c I am on a high protein diet.

gi-jane: Stretching is about 30 mins of my workout, but I could always do more. Thanks. :)

Can you take a multi vitamin that helps with your joints? I know some say they are for people over 50 but you can talk to your DR and see if it would be alright for you take. Great job on realizing your disease and making and effort to better yourself! Keep up the great work! It will get better and i hope you find a resolution soon!
