Portillos!!!!!!!!!! AHH!!!!
I am craving Portillos SOOOOOOOOOO badly right now!!! I want the cheese fries so bad I can taste them! I promised myself I wouldnt treat myself to Portillos until I was officially 150 lbs. and I am only 5 lbs away!!!!!! I cant wait!!!!!!! THIS SUCKS.
How about an Italian beef sandwich and a bag of baked Lay's?! That might get you over the hump. The beef sandwich is only 450 calories! (Cheeze fries at over 1,000 calories - nope, I wouldn't ever eat those again. Maybe mooch one off a friend's plate.)
I'd really question the "450 calories" number.
The bread alone has to be 200+ calories. Check out this: http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-bread- french-vienna-i18029?size=3 (the large slice is 277 cal)
Also, here is what Calorie Count says one serving of Fazio's beef is in calories http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-fazoli s-italian-beef-i53359
Basically, we're talking about a 1000 calorie sandwich. Yeah, much better tasting that a "Big Mac" though. I feel your pain though.....I love Italian beef.
Fries with Cheese on them? Come on! Those are fantastic, but they're also why I border upon diabetes!
I had a party where I made my own Italian Beef. (Super Bowl) When you can decide what your serving size will be it is much better.
I'll say, you do know what tastes good though! If you had a salad with a friend and shared the sandwich, that would be better.....but THAT is so hard to do. I'd go in to a wild frenzy and have to eat the whole thing. Try to hang in there.
I went to Portillo's website, and they refuse to give nutritional information. Then I checked Buona Beef, and they have full disclosure. And guess what? The small beef (the "Piccolo") is only 300 calories. That's not bad, and I like their beef.![]()
The Buona Beef "Piccolo" may be just right. It is small, but maybe enough to get the "fix" without being too unhealthy. According to their web site, the Piccolo has 31 grams of protein (just over an ounce) .....so that's a pretty small amount of meat. But at least we know it exists. Whew! Buona's fries are 590 cal!!! (without cheese)
Sadly Portillos is on my "DONT EVEN DRIVE BY IT LIST" lol. I was in NC for college and I have been back a year and gained... I kinda went crazy with all the "Chicago Land" food I was missing for 3 years... it may have something to do with what I used to like to get 2 jumbo chile cheese dogs, a large fry, and a medium chocolate shake... I don't know the calorie count... but I gained 35-40lbs in a year!
AHH! No more Portillos for me.
Yeah Portillos is truly my weakness!! But I quit going to stay loyal to my new lifestyle.
But of course... I stop there for a treat to reward myself after I reach my goals!!! It is a definite MOTIVATOR!!!!!!!!!!!
Although I'm brand new here, one of the things that I did when I was sucessfully loosing weight (i'm an on again off again person) is to not remove the things I loved, just limit them or alter them. If you want Italian Beef, opt for making it at home, where you can weigh the meat and pick healthier breads. If nothing is going to do except Portillos... Get a small beef... no cheese, no extras, and cut it in half. Eat only half. Although it's 500 calories... you won't feel as bad wolfing down almost a full days worth if you eat the whole thing.
Avoid fries at all costs. Avoid anything with the words "fried" in it. When I wanted "fries" I would make home made sweet potato fries at home by slicing up a sweet potato and baking it in the oven. I would spray some I can't Believe it's not butter spray on the top and sprinkle with a small amount of sea salt.
I love my portillos too.. and have searched for the nutrition info(not on portillos website)... i did an internet search and one site claims small cheese cup and regular fry is 1000 calories and an italian beef is 451.. not what I wanted to hear....yikes.
Portillos is just absolutely amazing, the beef and cheddar croissant could make me drool just thinking about it. It's most definitely part of the reason I'm all lumpy... :( I hope that you get to your 150 soon so you can indulge... just don't go too overboard.
Good Luck!!!
