Posing nude for art class at my college
Should I? I'm kind of nervous because I dont watn to see the people around campus and them be like 'haha..she nekkid" lol or w/e. Does doin this make me a whore or something? Any input would be nice because I dont know anyone who has drawn nude art or posed for it.
Ahhh, no! It does not make you a whore!!!
I've taken a lot of art courses, and it's not like that...trust me.
At the same time, I could never do it!
I'm wayyy too self conscious...
I've known friends that were art majors and drew nudes. From what my friend said, it wasn't that big of a deal. She wanted it done and over with, actually. Although, I think their models were quite a bit older (and saggier) than you.
That being said, as long as you're comfortable doing it, go for it. It doesn't make you a whore or anything. I would not be okay with doing it myself, but that's more due to lack of confidence in my body. I'd be horrified!! If you see them again, so what? I'm sure they know that you were just doing it because you wanted to, which isn't a big deal. And they'll probably think that you were cool for having done it too!
Honestly, I think about 2/3rds of the population here would give the proverbial eyeteeth to be in your shoes, or lack thereof.
Hehe, "freedomfrom," the way you word things makes me happy.
That and your enormous vocabulary, which I never understand.
Being smart must be fun...
This is my fifth year in college. I just completed my photography degree and currently working on finishing my two others. I've taken multiple drawing classes that have involved drawing nudes and i've also photograpged nudes before.
It's not that big of deal, no one is going to make fun of you or call you a whore. Everyone knows what a naked body looks like. This is college not high school. The hardest part about it (I've been a model once or twice) is trying to stay still for an hour!!
One more silly question. What do i do about the hair..uhm..down there...lol ..any suggestions? I dont want to go in with too much and them be like ew..or none and them be like..wha?
The only thing that really matters is whether you think you'll feel comfortable with being nude in front of strangers. In my experience (art student), the only time you'd potentially get juvenile pointing and giggling is during the first session and the teachers squash that fast. (It doesn't happen very often either.)
The fact is, that it's likely that the students you'd be posing for have seen (or will in the near future be seeing) lots 'o naked people, so them being obsessed with pointing you out is really unlikely.
In all honesty, if there's something kind of strange about a particular model, we might talk about it between ourselves, but that's brief and I can't imagine anybody making comments to the model (or within their hearing). BTW, about 90% of the time this scenerio happens because of something the model's wearing or doing, not because of their physical appearance.
One last thing: The last thing you'd be is a 'whore'. Models are one of the greatest tools and aids an aritst has. Drawing the human figure is hard, and the fact is that although every artist spends 100% of their day with a human model, most don't know anything about how people are put together. Actually, if you want to see what happens when an artist doesn't have model experience check out Michelangleo's Dawn sculpture. The man was a phenomanal artist, but boobs just don't work that way.
Edit to respond to the hair question.
Believe me, the students don't care, and are more likely to notice if you do something. We have one model who is shaved and branded in that area. Needless to say, her first appearence was a bit of a '?' for us for a moment. Of course this is the same lady who will stand on her head for quick 5 minute drawings. She's one of my favorites to draw because she gives us such dynamic poses.
I don't think it's a big deal. If you're comfortable being naked, go for it.
Unless the "class" ends up being at some guys home....and all the windows are taped with trash bags.... and he answers the door nude too (even though he tries to tell you he is just another nude model too) ...but dont believe him!!! Its a trap!!! wrunnnnnnn!
Hi, I went to a nude model workshop on the artist's end of things.. everyone was very respectful to the model and the only one who actually was allowed to talk to the model was the person organizing it. so it was made as comfortable a space as possible for her.
I did find out about a week later that she was on one of the sports teams I joined...WOW that was awkward! For about 2 seconds. Then it was perfectly fine..I said she did a great job modeling (she brought it up first) and so once we pointed out that it was kind of weird, it ceased to be weird. We're now friends. lol.
It doesn't make you a whore at all...its for the sake of art so there's usually a way different attitude towards nude art models than towards prostitutes of any kind...
Go for it if you have the confidence! I couldn't but that's just me I won't even wear a bikini
.
I think it will feel like a very liberating experience for you "Odd" but "Fantastic" all at the same time.
ur peers will prolly think ur a whore... but in reality its not... it all depends on whether u care about what other people think of u... but u've already seemed to have joined a sorority and most guys stereotype them as whores/sluts... but again, not necessarily true... rumors start from the people that don't know u. they judge based on what they see. that's how the world works. this is the most honest answer on here.
It's just being naked. Nothing wrong with naked people. As for the hair situation, just tidy it up. You don't want to go in there lookin' like Fur Burger or anything.
But seriously, nobody will think you're a whore and it pays pretty well (and even if they do think you are, the best response is "I got paid X amount to sit on my as$ for a couple of hours and daydream!). Don't worry about the hair situation - a little tidy up or trim and you'll be fine. In my experience, the students don't really think about it, anyway, they're too busy concentrating on getting your proportions right!
no one in their right mind should associate anything weird with nude models or even make a big deal of it unless they have serious maturity issues.
i've drawn all kinds of nude models. there's no need to be self conscious either. one of the best, most interesting models i had was a very hairy, chubby man, middle aged who posed in full splits.
One thing to look out for though--until you get used to it, holding a pose perfectly still is a lot harder than it looks! Your muscles can get stiff and you get itchies you weren't aware of before, lol. For a beginner see if you can do a sitting or reclining pose.
I have done it.. It really is not a big deal, and MY university had a strict NO CELL PHONE rule for those classes... I don't want to end up on the internet! It was kinda boring, staying in the same position for an hour. But whatever!
As said above, while working the model is just a subject. If you are doing standing poses though make sure you do not lock your legs. You'll pass out
