Maintaining
Moderators: iae

I am not sure which category this would fall under, but I was wondering about caloric intake.  Now, I have been eating RIDICULOUS amounts of food totaling past 2000, sometimes near 3000! yikes!  I dieted for a while from 146 to 116/117lbs now.  I exercise around 2-3times a week for 30-45min usually weight training.  I know that my body does not need as much as I am giving it.  And since I binge like crazy, even if I am not hungry, my MIND tells me to go down stair and rummage until I can put something else into my mouth, and eat well-past full : (. I "feel" hungry every hour :(. Anyway, my question is, does your body adapt to caloric intake(allowing you to maintain) if it is above what you put out?  Since our bodies can adapt to lower amounts after a period of time, I was wondering if the same can kinda/sorta apply to this situation.  I am constantly at 2000 everday, if not more, no matter what I do. . . My stats are 5'3.5inches, 20 yr old female, 19.4BF%.  My fear is that within a few months my body will jump back to it's old weight from being over whatever my maintenance calories are. . .

P.S.  I hope I don't sound stupid for asking this, especially since we ALL know that GREATER calories in vs. calories out= GAIN, but I was curious about a possible exception to the rule?

how long has this been happening? eating an excess? if it's been a while and you haven't seen a gain then maybe 2000 calories is maintenance for you, which isn't shocking. i am 4'11 and eat 1900+ EVERYDAY because that's maintenance for me.

This has been happening since the end of April.  I went from 112(April/May)-116/117(Currently).  I am assuming this gain is from weight training/fat gain(since a surplus in calories, especially for muscle gain results in muscle and fat).  I do see a noticeable difference in my arms and legs especially : ).  I honestly, cannot tell what is going on. Also, I recognize your profile pic and name, since you've commented on a few of my other posts, so since I have not had my period since the end of January, I have been experiencing lower pelvic pain and lower back pain for the last day or so.  I am truly hoping that this is my period coming back, because as far as I can remember(lol) those symptoms, including my insatiable appetite, meant Aunt Flow was on her way.  So, I am still confused, and learning on a daily basis what I should do to get out of this rut and provide my body with what I think it needs.

if in about 6 weeks you've only gained about 4 pounds then that's roughly 1/2 pound gain per week, which averages out to 250 calories over maintenance each day...if you're eating 2000 minimum with maybe a 2500 calories day mixed in there then that's 14500 a week or 2071 averaged each day, so if you subtract 250 from 2071 then you get about 1821 for maintenance at your current activity level but if you're weight lifting a surplus does lead to muscle gain, which is beneficial. I'd start eating about 1900 consistently or i would have days where i would go every other day with 1700 and 2100 to average 1900 per day. this would allow higher cal days and maybe prevent the overeating. hope this helps!!
