How is this possible?

Quote  |  Reply

This doesnt seem right. I have been sick this week and yesterday ate only chicken broth and crackers. My cal intake was only around 400 cals. While I did nothing but sleep and lay down, I dont understand how I managed to GAIN a pound. Three days ago when I ate the same amount and did the same things I LOST 2 pounds.

It could just be the scale acting wacky, I don't pay too much attention to a lb plus or minus on the scale. It could just be water weight too. Look at the sodium on your chicken broth. I have a small can of it I just looked at and it's got over 1,000 mlg of sodium, and it's supposed to be one of the lower sodium ones! Not to mention crackers have sodium too. Maybe it's some kind of temporary reaction from your body because you're sick and not eating much, it's not allowing you to lose weight. Either way, I wouldn't panic! It will probably go back to normal very soon.

Could be water-weight...you will find out in a couple of days..

Don't feel bad :)

I vote for water weight too. Crackers and broth both tend to be a bit salty even if you aim for low sodium.

If you have a cold your system is all gunked up with mucus and things anyway, and it needs to retain water in order to keep producing all that mucus!

The sodium could also be adding to the problem.

Don't stress until you are well again.  I bet you have lost weight ... just don't be surprised if you put it back on again after a couple of days of eating regular again.
