Yesterday I was 148.8 and today I am 146.8 thats a whole 2 pound difference, I know that's not all fat but its is possible to loose a 2 lb combination of fat and water weight in one day?

I don't understand the dynamics of how it all works but yes it's possible. One time when dieting I was stuck on the same weight for 2 weeks then one day hopped on the scale and from one day to the next it was a 5 lbs difference. Strange I know but it does happen.

It can seem strange for sure.  Body flucuations definitely can factor in but the scale tells you its true.  Now if you "gain" a pound in a day dont take it badly - I believe there are diffent good an bad days so getting an exact true weight can be hard to do.  As you point out, there are things besides fat loss that affect our weight but overall its a great direction to be going in!

3,500 calories= 1 lb of fat.

Therefore in order to lose 2 lbs of Fat in 2 days, you would have to have had a calorie deficit of 7,000 calories. In two days, this is not possible.

You should weigh-in weekly, the human body normally fluctuated water anywhere from 0-10 lbs! Usually 2-5 lbs dropped/gained in a short amount of time is definitely water. If you eat a lot of salty foods, and then cut them out and drink a lot of water your body will stop retaining water and you'll drop.

 To the quoted comment: Ugh, people are not machines. There are more factors in play than mere calories in, calories out. I weighed in nearly 4 lbs lighter this morning which was in part water, but in part fat loss. We'll see how it looks tomorrow...

I do agree with you about a weekly weigh in, but find it very amusing the first few weeks of tracking my food (before my body realizes that I am eating fewer calories and I don't lose quickly any longer), and therefore find myself weighing more often.

You cannot lose a substantial amount of fat in one day.

You should not weigh everyday.

 

This is what I do and works for my pretty good:

Always eat the same stuff on saturday (try as little as possible of sodium especially on this day) and weight on Sunday morning. Do this every week and you should get pretty accurate results. That comes from experience and lately confirmed by a doctor.

From the camp of weighing every day...

I weigh every day, so that I can see the normal fluctuations. Because if I only weigh in on Thursdays, and one Thursday happens to be high, when Wednesday and Friday were low, I won't know that - I'll just think that I've gone up since last week.

If you use the weight graph on CC, it shows you the trend line, which lets you ignore the daily fluctuations, and just make sure you are headed in the right direction.  There are some people, however, who should not weigh every day, for instance, I would think those with EDs.

i weigh everyday, or most days. i'm fine with it.

If you want to weigh yourself everyday, that's fine but you may have to deal with the emotional ups and downs that come with it.  I weigh myself several times a week out of curiosity but the only one I consider important and document is my Sunday morning weigh in. 

I also use an Omron Fat Loss Monitor to measure what really counts, how much Fat I've lost.  Weighing yourself may give you a general idea of your progress but monitoring your body fat percentage tells you what you really want to know (or don't want to know). 

By monitoring your fat you may find that your weight has increased by a pound or so due to additional muscle mass while losing 1% body fat.  When you have that kind of information you won't care so much about what the scale says.

Just my two cents.
