How is this possible?
So I've been doing this diet and exercise thing for almost 5 months, and I've been really successful. Started at 220 and last week I was at 183. But over the past couple of days it's been climbing a little at a time. Somehow yesterday and today the scale has been saying 186/187.
Pretty sure I'm not retaining water right now as my period is almost over and I've been stayin away from sodium and drinking plenty of water. I've kept up a deficit, even though this past weekend my appetite was insane and I ate more than usual. I've been working out; I ran 3 miles yesterday without stopping! So why am I slowing down and/or gaining?
I almost thought it might be muscle. I was doing a lifting program from March to the end of April, but then my gym closed for intersession so I didn't lift for 2 weeks (but kept doing cardio on my own like running and swimming). I started lifting again on Tuesday, but I'm pretty sure I couldn't have gained a few pounds of muscle in 2 days...
I'm not freaking out...yet.
Hi,
I can commiserate. I wish I could offer sage words of wisdom, but I'm going through the same thing. I somehow managed to gain 2 lbs. in one day even though I stayed below my allotted calories and worked out with my PT yesterday (who kills me!) I know the math doesn't add up. I would have had to eat 7000 calories over and had no activity for that to happen. Yet, it did. I'm trying to look at it logically. It's impossible that I gained two pounds in one day. Right?
Anyway, I can offer this. Keep persevering. I have been trying for almost two months to get the scale to move down and it only seems to be going up. Sigh. I'm less than 10 lbs. from reaching a huge milestone in my weight loss journey and it just seem to be getting further and further away.
Maybe I took your mind off your worries? :o) Best of luck.
That is the real telltale answer right there if you are gaining weight or muscle.
If they are bigger-then don't worry and keep going :) You are probably at a plateau. My body hit them frequently after i got under 200lbs and liked to stay there for a few weeks.
If they aren't; you may want to re-evaluate your eating and exercise :)

how much sodium did you get yesterday? that can cause water gain (bummer really), just drink a bit extra water to help flush it out. I think the same thing happens with a hard workout too.... but im not totally positive on that. Water weight is evil lol. And it takes water to get rid of it.
Okay so it was water weight. I was up to 187/188 ish and freaked out, but now I'm back on track (182 today!). I've been running lately - a lot, so that's really helping. I've also been way more careful about my calories the past couple of days; not that I was slacking, but I was giving in to my pms-inflated appetite.
And yes, my clothes feel bigger. I'm pretty sure I've dropped another size actually. I started at a 16, I'm a 12 now! And now even the 12 is gettin too big! Hopefully I'm done with this plateau or whatever the hell it was. Thank you guys for your words of encouragement:)
