If it helps at all my body can fluctuate by up to 9lbs in a week...

And I often go to sleep after weighing myself to found out that I've suddenly dropped by 4lbs overnight.

Bodys are craaazy like that.

Weight fluctuations are very random.

It's possible. Like everyone said it fluctates. It can be caused by a number of factors too much sodium the day before and not enough water, you haven't took a complete sh** yet. (:P) You have food and drink in your stomach, getting ready for that time of the month, muscle, etc. So don't panic. Your best bet is to weigh yourself once a week in the morning after you use the restroom. :)

Calm down.  Here's something from the CC Advice section - Mary Hartley's Q&A

How did I gain 4 pounds in one day?

Temporary weight gain is most likely a result of water retention, which can be caused by eating too much sodium. Water is heavy: a gallon weighs 8.34 pounds. In the body, sodium is found in the tissues outside of the blood vessels. If sodium becomes too concentrated, water rushes in to lower the concentration. The result is puffiness, often seen in the fingers and ankles as gravity pushes water to the ground. To eliminate excess sodium and water, reduce dietary salt intake and drink plain water to flush out the system. In women, the hormones of the menstrual cycle can also cause sodium retention. Certain medications can cause water retention as well.

Weight fluctuations do happen, it could possibly be due to water retention.

I'm with you sister!  I gained 8lbs on day this week and I was like WHAT???  I have been pushing my slef like crazy and eating all the right foods.  4 of those pounds are now gone but I have weigh in tomorrow and 4 of those horrible pounds still remain and i have no idea why or how they got there.

ive weighed myself again today and i am still up 4lbs !!!!!!!!

i guess i have to just keep going

Green tea. Nothing finer to flush excess sodium from the body, plus it has about 82934923842 (approx.) other helpful effects, not the least of which is thermogenic: it helps speed your metabolism up a bit.

But yeah, chances are it's sodium keeping your water in you, or possibly carbs if you had a particularly carb-heavy day.

As to REAL weight gain, it's roughly 3500kcal for one pound. I've recently read a report that claims that the enzymes responsible for transforming blood sugar into fat can only handle about 1lbs of gain per day in a 50th percentile person. So even if you power load and take in 10000kcal (!!!), you should only gain an actual pound of fat... anything beyond that would be transient water weight.

Please don't test that hypothesis. Wink

I think it is possible. I fluctuate 3 lbs. just from the morning to night. PMS, sodium intake, water retention, stress, bloating to certain foods can give one a longer "weight gain" for a few days or more (if not treated, like water retention/edema). I have an adema problem that comes and goes and yes, is most prevelent during PMS week. I make an effort to try and not weigh myself daily for this reason - it can drive me crazy and depressed at the same time and not to take the scales seriously a week before my period.
