Is it possible for your stomach to stop digesting food?
I'm struggling with anorexia/bulimia, and i throw up basically all of my food. which is disgusting and horrible, but now it just comes up on its own (ew).
i've been noticing, that i'll end up vomiting up food i had eating several hours earlier, and food usually digests in 2-4 hours. is my stomach so effed up that it isnt digesting food anymore, even when i dont purge it?
Reason: Promotion of starvation diets or habits that exhibit signs of an eating disorder ("pro-ana", "pro-mia", etc.) is prohibited.
it's entirely possible. my mom used to tell me how stupid it was to purge (don't be offended; i did my fair share of purging) because if you do it too long, your stomach forgets how to digest and use food.
if you're starting recovery, you should probably go to a doctor and see if they can help you with it.
good luck!
Hi runnabe.
I keep reading your posts about your struggles, and I cant stress enough how much you really need profesisonal care.
Being at this point, where you are havign your stomach throw up your food by its own, is a serious sign that you have really damaged your system.
Please go to a doctor asap. Have this issues adressed before it gets TOO late.
Anorexia and Bulemia can cause so many consequences...just to name a few:
Osteoporosis by the age of 40, Hair loss, Kidney and Bladder failures, Heart failure, Loss of teeth, Infertility...and the list goes on forever.
so pleaseeee
I know you are just looking for help and advice, but us here in CC can only do so much...yes we will adivce you and support you whenever you need, but when it comes to this, only a doctor can help you.
I hope you are seeing a professional already, and are trying hard to get into recovery already...
if u need to message me for anything do so...I hope you follow my advice
good luck and please take care
If you've got a problem now of involuntary regurgitation then you do need to see a doctor. There are all kinds of valves and muscles in your digestive tract that open and close to let food through one way and prevent it coming back the other. If you weaken or damage these valves and muscles then it's potentially very serious as you won't be able to keep food down at all.
Do go to see your doctor at the earliest opportunity.
Hi runnabe,
I've already replied to you on the dangers of purging but must stress them again: slowing of or struggling breathing and damage to the lungs, stress on and failure of your organs, loss of period, irregularity of heartbeat, eroding of tooth enamel, tearing of the esophagus, ulcers, osteoporosis, pneumonia, risk of coma and of heart failure. Along with this, if your vomiting has become involuntary it may be a sign of the stress you are putting on your stomach and muscles as has been said. You need to see a doctor immediately about both your mental and physical health. CC cannot help you with this, not right now, but your doctor can and, from what you are describing, needs to.
