Post baby weight loss group anyone?

Quote  |  Reply

So, I noticed we don't actually have a group for post baby weight loss yet. Would anyone like to start a group for support, accountability (lol) or otherwise? I'm game. We are all in the same boat.

Hi, dovies!

I have almost the exact same stats as you. My son is 6.5 months old and I'm still breastfeeding. I was 128 at my first doctor's appointment when pregnant and weighed 170 the day I delivered. I now weigh 130 pounds with 15 to lose to get to my goal weight.

I was having trouble losing weight the first several months. I realized that I wasn't eating enough. On days that I don't work out, I have to eat 1900-2100 calories to maintain my milk supply AND lose weight. I started out losing 2-3 pounds per week (at 3-4 months postpartum) and I've now plateaued. I've added exercise to my weight-loss plan and the weight is starting to come off again.

I know how hard it is to make yourself eat more in order to lose weight. It goes against everything we've been told in the past but I dropped 15 pounds after increasing my calories.

Hope that helps :)

Hello, I'm new to this calorie counting, I just had my baby girl 5 months ago and I can't get the last 25 lbs off, of course I really havn't been trying that hard, but now I have to get serious about it, I can't stand being overweight

Hi girls!

I had my son 5 weeks ago and have just started back to exercise... Is there a group running now??

I'm just taking it slowly and trying to get back into walking first, then jogging after my 6 week postnatal appointment... I need to get some sort of body back!!

Anyway, would love some support with this if this group is a goer...:-)

Hi,

I had my first child, Luca,  3 and a half years ago. I had Andrea 10 months ago and although I've lost some weight I just can't get rid of the last 20 lb. I was 132 lb before and would like to get back down to about that weight it would be nice to chat to other women in the same boat and see how they are doing

Hi, taramalone, jamie2009 and miciogatto!

Congratulations all around!

The Pregnancy and Parenting forums are chalk full of women who have seen it all! We have women who have adult children and many, many new and pregnant moms! We have day care providers, nurses and stay-at-home moms. We are either all losing weight or have already lost weight.

The support here is amazing! While this thread may not be incredibly active, the forums are.

Welcome!

Thanks for the reply, I am currently trying to lose 55lbs I was overweight before I got pregnant,  I gained 40 lbs with my pregnancy and I should have only gained 20.  I really hope this helps because I really have no other options at this time

Thanks! Good to know so many others are in the same boat... I did great losing my weight after my first child, and i'm hoping to follow that same pattern this time, but i have this feeling it wont be as easy second time around especially considering i have a lot more weight to lose this time! Looking forward to shedding the kilos with you all!

I had my second child a year and a half ago and I just can't get rid of this belly!!! I hate it!! I had very little trouble losing the weight after my first child!! But this tummy weight is stubborn!! So I am here and I am trying!!! Plus we want to have another and I really want to have a fit, healthy pregnancy!!! I agree..why can't our bodies just go back to normal!!!

Well I had my 2nd daughter on December 2, 2008 as wellLaughing  Im currently at 207lbs and only lost 16lbs so far since I gave birth.

Between my first and second pregnancy, I lost 30 pounds with Calorie Count :)

I've now lost almost 40 pounds after my most recent pregnancy :)

i would love to join this group.  i am 28 and had my first child four months ago.  pre pregnancy i was about 125-130 and right now i am 139 pounds.  i exercise pretty hard when i can and eat pretty reasonably.  but i do tend to eat late at night.   i just did some research on the zone diet and started that today.  hopefully being more strict with my diet along with exercise will help me lose the 10+ pounds.

has anyone tried the zone diet?

I am in the same boat ;) Then only thing is that I cut my calories back to a little over 2000 and my milk supply dried up ... so I went back to eating like a pig. Now I am afraid to cut back on the calories for fear of losing my milk. I want to keep breastfeeding my baby for numerous reasons. Reason 1 he was premmature and still is smaller than most babies his age and the doctor said premmature babies benefit way more from breastmilk (which I agree with). It is so convenient especially for middle of the night feedings. And its cheap! I don't think I could afford formula right now. BUt at the same time I am sick and tired of being overweight. Before I got pregnant I lost 10 lbs. After the baby came I was back down to my prepregnancy weight but since then have gained 10 lbs. I need to lost at least 50 lbs ...

I started exercising but I don't get to it consistenly because my work schedule is different everyday.

I, too, would like to continue to breastfeed for a while longer. It seems I struggle with finding the appropriate calorie intake in order to balance weight loss and maintaining a milk supply. I was losing weight consistently when eating 1900-2100 calories. I've been at a plateau for quite a while now so I decided to try decreasing my calories a bit. Well, my milk supply has dropped again and to me, producing milk is more important than weight loss so I've increased my calories again. I don't bother weighing myself at this point because I only have less than 5 pounds of pregnancy weight to lose (and 10-15 after that to be at the lower end of my ideal weight range). I try to work out for at least 20 minutes a day but between work and the very few hours I have with my kids, it gets put off a lot.

I guess I'm saying that I understand how you feel :)

I Zone dieted for a while. It teaches you proper balancing and portion control. The only products a bought were the bars. I eventually was able to easily calculate a balanced meal and wasn't as stringent about "Zone" dieting. It's more or less about well-rounded meals. I still eat the Zone bars, especially at work. I am a hairstylist and sometimes lunch is while a client is processing. I need good nutrition fast.

I had an exellent experience with the diet. I lost a few lbs, but was already thin. I did it more to maximize my fat loss and muscle building. At the time, it took me from 18% BF to 11%. Good stuff.

how did you lose all your post partum weight being a single mom with two kids? i'm 5'5 and was about 125-130 pounds before i got pregnant.  two months post partum  i was about 145 pounds.  when i went back to work, i started working out during my lunch break by running and going up and down the stadium stairs.  i lost about five pounds but saw myself stuck at 140 pounds for two months.  i am now about four months post partum and decided i needed to start dieting to lose the last 10-15 pounds.  i started the zone diet a week ago and lost two pounds already.

do you have any advice?

I only gained 18 lbs during both pregnancies. I started at 123 this time and delivered at 141. I was 124 when I left the hospital. So, I didn't battle having to lose extra baby weight. I exercised and ate well the entire pregnancy, so getting back into a routine wasn't hard.

As far as workouts go now, I do what I can. I used to be a runner, but it's impossible for me to do it with a jogstroller. It just doesn't feel right. So I bought a baby seat for my bike and do hills through town. I also walk anywhere I can with the stroller; to the store, bank, etc. I lift weights at home during her morning nap when I can and that's about it. I also work at a salon, so I am on my feet at work and using my arms a lot. It really burns extra calories.

Stick with the Zone diet if it's working. It's such a reasonable plan and it's not a fad diet. It's simple math and portions. You'll get there.
