Post Meals, Share Information, Weigh in every Monday! Everyone welcome
Hi Everyone,
*So I've revised this group because I want to be able to share information, get ideas, and be held accountable. I think by having more members that I will benefit more from it!
Since there are a lot of us Maritimers here I thought I would create a group where we can connect and have weekly weigh-ins. I'm also going to track my inches because losing inches is my main target right now.
I'll be posting my starting stats tomorrow morning and we'll have the weekly weigh-in every Monday! Maybe this will help us curve our weekend appetites :)
Please add anything else you wish to share ..i.e receipes, daily menu, workouts etc.
Jenn (NS)
going grocery shopping tomorrow, here's what's on my list
apples
celery
bell peppers
canned chicken
soy cream cheese <=I'm lactose intolerant
grapes
some premade food from the deli section?
everytime I walk by the bakery, I just want to buy absolutely everything. I'm such a carb-aholic. I just know I'm going to want to buy a loaf of italian bread or a baguette or something. hopefully I'll be able to fight the urge because if I buy it, I know I'll eat it all in one sitting!
out of curiosity, what are some of your grocery staples?
queenmedia, I noticed that you often have tortilla chips. are these a certain kind/brand or are they just regular tortilla chips like tostitos, etc?
Yesterday I ate pretty well. A big veggie filled cheesy omelette for lunch and for supper was spicy potatoes with onions, green onions, red pepper and a tiny piece of chocolate cake for dessert. A beer somehow worked its way in there, but I think I did pretty good :)
My grocery list usually just tops off what I'm low on in the following list:
apples
oranges
bananas
carrots
celery
potatoes
spinach
peppers
a couple onions
rice
eggs
skim milk
flour/oats/whatever I need for baking
My curiosity: what are your staple meals. I've been experimenting with cooking a lot lately, but still always seem to have my key meals I fall back to:
vegetable soup / stew
vegetable fried rice
pizza
bruschetta
spinach lasagna
omelette + hasbrowns or pancakes
potatoes with steamed veggies
A few things I like to make for meals:
- homemade chili; I load it up with lots of onions, red pepper, mushrooms, celery, beans and use lean (or extra lean) ground beef. I find that one cup of that with 15 tortilla chips is really filling (about the chips, I used to buy Tostitos rounds, but I recently got Old Dutch rounds. I can have 20 of them for 130 cals, Tostitos are 15 for 150)
- cooking a whole turkey or chicken; the meat is great for quick lunches and suppers (stirfrys, sanwhiches, soup/stew, etc) The only thing about this is I make gravy and I hate to see it not get used and my favorite use for gravy is pouring it on fries with cheese and ketchup YUM!!
- I eat a lot of frozen mixed veggies, california or stir fry mix, usually.
Sarah, do you make your pizza yourself or buy frozen? Those spicy potatoes sound delish! I almost never eat potatoes anymore :( I miss them! It doesn't really help matters that my Dad (who lives next door) is a potato farmer and he stores them in my cellar. The redeeming thing about living on a farm though, my parents and I have a strawberry business, so I eat a ton of strawberries when they're in season.
I'm getting groceries today, here's a few things on the list:
-canned corn, crackers, yogurt, hot pockets, a turkey, frozen boneless skinless chicken strips, peaches, canned tomatoes, grapes, mushrooms, salsa, milk, bread, juice boxes, baking supplies. I plan on buying some garden seeds today as well. Do any of you guys plant a garden?
We're already stocked up on apples, bananas, mandarins, celery, and red pepper. I've got lots of healthy choices, so no excuses!
And I worked out today! Yay!
How goes the battle today everyone? Today I dug down deep and got motivated enough to do my core exercises and burned 250 cals on the bike. Here's the meal plan for today;
B- honey nut Cheerios, 1% milk, flaxseed
L- 1 C of chili, 20 tortilla chips, side salad
Supper- 1/2 C ww pasta, mixed veggies, beef strips in sesame ginger sauce
snacks- banana, apple, maybe a PB sandwich on multigrain
My new favorite place to eat in the mall food court- I'm not exactly sure of the name, but it's something like "Made in Japan Teriyaki". Their chicken yakisoba is good- a plate full of yakisoba noodles, bean sprouts, mushrooms and chicken with teriyaki sauce, all for only 507 cals. Sure beats New York Fries or McDonalds!
Last night I ate a whole bunch of sour cream and bacon Ripples and a Turtle Easter egg ![]()
eek. we seem to have a problem with nighttime snacking.
I'm exactly the same way.
. Last night after my planned dinner, I got the midnight munchies and had a granola bar, a clif bar, applesauce, and a can of lean chicken. (healthy foods because that's all I had, but I still shouldn't have eaten them!)
Maybe we can challenge each other to an eating cuttoff time?
I stay up pretty late (until 2-3am usually) So I'm going to say no eating past midnight starting today!
On a totally different note, I'm in college and live in a dorm, and I set something on fire in the microwave this morning. I was totally freaking out because there was smoke seeping out of the microwave. I kept the microwave door closed for 30 minutes while I stood there in horror, and then I cleaned up the mess. Thankfully the smoke detector didnt catch that, otherwise everyone in my dorm would've hated me!
Adrenaline rush way too early in the morning for me. I'm exhausted.
That sounds like a good idea, but I'm telling you I'm weak, really weak! Especially when the munchies hit. I usually go to bed by 11/1130, so a good cutoff for me would be 9. Yes, that I can do. I think!
Thats good about the microwave thing working out- nothing like endearing yourself to your dorm mates like an early morning alarm and sprinklers! :)
Hey Everyone...
Sorry, I haven`t been posting but I go to University part-time and have been there for the last 3 days. I`ve done OK this week but really need to pick up next week if I want that dress to fit. I`m worried about weigh in on monday :(
Wow! I'm really not looking forward to weigh in tomorrow.
Meals for yesterday look like this...
B: nothing
L: Egg salad sandwich with sprouts and a naniamo bar
S: Cheerios snack mix
D: Homemade hamburger w/white bun and fries (so bad)
S: Well we had friends over to participate in Earth Hour with us and so we had a fondue with fruit and chocolate and we had some chips and some gummie bears lol...
I'm really thinking I'm going to have a gain tomorrow :(
mugzymoo,
don't sweat the small stuff! it's okay to indulge
every once in a while, plus, the fondue and gummy bears can be
considered as your "fruit" (or fruit related) intake for yesterday. ![]()
maybe try to eat low sodium for the next few days to flush water weight out?
seriously though, all of you eat much healthier than I do. kudos to you! you guys inspire me to do better, haha.
I
actually kept my "don't eat after midnight" rule for the past 2 days!! woohoo!
I'm improving one small step at a time, haha.
keep up the good work and I'll see you all on Monday!
oH, hi guys.
Opalaurora, remember how I said I was going to try to kick the late night snacking with you? (Congrats BTW!! College eating was hard for me- I gained 15 pds in the one and only year that I went) Anyways, I think that I lasted for all of about 30 minutes! My husband got home late from work that day and he had pizza for supper (I had a slice as well) and choc chip cheesecake of which I also partook! Yikes!!! 1 slice of cheesecake=495 cals!
Despite that, I have been exercising every day (weights and cardio) and this morning I was my lowest weight thus far, crossing my fingers for tomorrow morning.
Today is my 5 yr/olds bday, so I've already had a small piece of cake and a scoop of ice cream, and I had some creamy dill Ripples- soooo good- as well. I don't feel really great today (possibly because of the junk?), so I will likely not eat a whole lot more for the rest of the day.
Don't worry too much about tomorrow Jenn. 3 steps forward and one step back is still 2 steps ahead of where you used to be! Do you have an appt for a dress alteration this week?
oy. I polished off a box of girl scout cookies on my own today! ![]()
no more desserts for me for the rest of the week.
I didn't eat after midnight, so i did one good thing at least...
plan for tomorrow (which I'll hopefully follow)
breakfast - cup of soup
lunch - small piece of quiche, medium salad, cup of canned pineapple
snack - apple
dinner - turkey sandwich on multigrain, baby carrots
snack - oatmeal

Here's where I'm at:
Height- 5'6" Current weight- 125.2pds Goal weight- 110-115
weight- 124.2pds
weight- 123.4
This morning I weighed in at 124.2. I tell myself not to be disappointed, but in the end it just makes me want to try harder instead of reaching for some "comfort food" (the emotional eater in me). Do you guys ever rationalize things in your mind? I do all the time, so here is my rationalization for this mornings weigh in- yesterday morning I weighed 122.4, I ate a lot of high sodium things during the day, and I'll be having my TOM this week. Maybe the word "rationalization" is synonomous with "excuses"...
B- Cheerios, 1%milk, flaxseed
L- Chicken sandwich on multigrain, side salad, apple
Supper- mixed veggies with beef strips, sesame ginger sauce
Snacks- apple, mandarin orange, choc chip granola bar, rice cracker
400 cals on bike, 20 minutes of weight lifting.
Steph, does this mean you stayed the same?? Weight wise? I gained :( But I figure I'm just going to have to work super hard and try not to fall off the wagon again...
I don't know what's wrong with me...no will power!
I was up this week from 123.4 to 124.2
Do you still weigh yourself only on Monday mornings Jenn? I still do it every morning and record it, and I find that my weight bounces up and down by almost 2 pounds some days. So although you weighed heavier this morning, don't count it automatically as a weight gain, it may be fluid or something else.
For example, here's a glance at my weight for the past week:
Mon last week- 123.4, Tues- 124.2 Wed- 125.4, Thurs- 123.6, Fri- 123.8, Sat-125, Sun- 122.4. Days like Saturday I'm like "shoot!". And then the next day it's "WOOHOO!"
So don't be discouraged! Just keep thinking of walking down the aisle feeling slim and trim!
Maybe on days when you feel you've eaten too much or the wrong thing, do some extra exercise- take Molly for a longer walk or try out some new exercises from your book, either that or more sets/reps of ones you already do.
starting (on this thread): 130
1st week: 129
2nd week: 131.5
this week: 128.9
I'm slightly disappointed because I weighed myself a few days ago and was 128, but I know it was those darned cookies, and that's my own fault.
Jenn, August is plenty of time to work with! Just keep up your good work (and forget about the not so good stuff) and I'm sure you'll get there.
Steph, I do that too! I feel like with water weight, ttom, inaccurate scales, and life in general that I need to see the general trend of my numbers to know where I'm at. Congratulations on your Sunday weight
, haha.

Hi Wildntaken - in response to your question....I took this from a website instead of trying to explain myself :) Hummus is a middle-eastern food composed of chickpeas, or garbanzo beans, and tahini, a paste similar in texture to peanut butter that is made from sesame seeds. Hummus is typically eaten with pita or other flat bread.
Hummus is really good...and if you are lactose intolerant or just don't like dairy its great! I eat it with carrots and other veggies as dip and I have also used it as spread on sandwiches :)
Steph, I do still weigh myself everyday...and this weekend I could see it going up and up but couldn't stop my cravings!! But I'm back on track!!
thanks mugzymoo, i never heard of it. will check at the store next time i go! thanks and good luck!
