Post pregnancy weight loss!
I have been wondering how soon can you start working out after your baby is born? I have read so many different articles that say to wait for at least 1 week to a couple of months. Would working out the day you bring baby home for a noncomplicated natural birth harm your body? I was very active before and during my pregnancy so I feel confident that when I give birth that I will be able to start working out again right after the baby is born (due Jan 7, 2010). I have had two previous births with no complications and I don't foresee anything wrong with this one either. I am just not sure if that would be too soon if I feel fine during my workouts. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
I was about to write this whole long post about how hard labor and delivery can be on your body, and then I read your post again and realized that you said you'd already had kids. So you know. I would say that if you feel like it, go for it, but listen to your body and take it slow. I know I wouldn't have been able to work out so soon after having my son, but only you know your body.
I was active during my entire pregnancy and when I had Kennedy, which I may add, labor only 4 hours with 2 pushes for a first time mom, I waited till I healed. She came out so fast that she tore my urtetha and a small one near my bum. It was healed after about 2 weeks and after that I was walking hard with her in the stroller around 2.5 weeks and back in the gym at 3 weeks. Congrats on staying active, it made me have the easiest labor and I know with the second I will do the same thing. Also, I was back to my same size at 2 weeks and gained 25lbs. Of course she will be 8 weeks on Monday and my tummy has a long way to go to be close to what it was, but at least I can wear my clothes again. May I add I am not and never have been skinny, I am 5'6, 150lbs, but I am in shape.
Good luck and trust your body!! It may take 6 weeks, it may take a week, just listen to your body.
I had stitches with my other two babies too because they came out so fast as well and I might just wait until I am healed too. But I will have to see how I feel once I have the baby to determine if I can start working out so soon after birth. Thank you both for your feedback. I will take it slow and listen to my body so that I don't cause more harm to it then the trama of having a baby already did.
I had a c-section and was out with her in the stroller in two weeks. Nothing more than that though. At six weeks I was back to the gym, and at 4 weeks....back in the sack. LOL!! All w/ doc's OK. But make sure you get clearance no matter what you want to do!
