Is it possible you have allergies?  Being a chronic allergy sufferer, that's what I would suspect.  While you're jogging, you're outside and breathing a lot, so you would be getting lots of exposure to whatever pollen or other allergen is in the air, so that's when your body would react to it.
I get this too.  I have to spit a lot while I run, especially when I pick up the pace, so I can keep breathing.  I have no idea what causes it.  I think I'm just a secreter ... I also sweat like crazy and turn beet red.
My theory has always been that the running and breathing just helps clear things out (stuffy sinuses or whatever) because I get it, too. I keep my head up and don't be afraid to spit when no one's looking. I sweat and turn red, too! Hmmm.... But I'm an allergy sufferer certain times of the year but the mucus is year-round, so I don't think it's related to allergies, at least for me.
I get this on the elliptical as well.  It can be a little scary... I'm out of breath here, I dont need to be choking on top of it all...

No spitting in the gym, however...  ;)
I get really bad snot.  I just wipe it on my shirt.  All my shoulders on my shirts have snot stains on them until I wash it! Thank god for dark blueeeee.

I just think that your blood is flowing better and all that "gunk" is starting to circulate.
I tend to have to go pee or poo more too when I run ... blood is circulating faster to the intestines and kidneys.
Its good for you!
Right?

Two things to try:

1) Drink more water

2) Cut way back on dairy products.
It's not abnormal.  I used to run XC and we were a line of 15 girls leaving a trail of spit in our wake... spit away!
thanks. Yeah, i hate it when i'm on busy street and i can't spit discreetly. haha eew.

I have to spit a lot too, and by the end of 3.1 miles, there's just goobers stuck at the back of my throat too & I have to "hork" it out! lol! real attractive for a lady hey? But once it's out, I'm all clear! Not sure why either, sorry
i get it too. i think its normal, and runners definitely spend a lot of time spitting... on the road at least... they should install spitoons next to ellipticals and treadmills at gyms! haha. definitely drinking more water helps though. sometimes i chew a piece of strong, minty gum for a few minutes, which seems to "cut" through the thick stuff.
take care all!
