Postpartum moms wanting to lose weight...

Quote  |  Reply
Is there anyone else here that has had a baby recently.  My son is 4 months old (born in June 06) and I returned to work when he was 2 months old.  With 4 children total, I am very busy and have a hard time taking time for me.  I would like some other postpartum moms to keep in contact with so we can support each other as we try to trim off the excess weight, be healthy, while being so incredibly busy.

I am 36 yrs old, 5'1, weigh 185 lb and want to lose 50 lbs.  I want to eat nutriously, which is my main goal, but also really need to get back into shape.

I think it is easier to stick to something like weight loss when you hold your self accountable with others...anyone want to join in?

Edit: 10/27/06  Any moms can join even though this thread has already been going and has a great group of moms so far!  Just post and we'll have an even larger group of us here supporting each other.  And even if you don't have a new baby, that's okay too!  We're a supportive group so feel free to join in!

Hey I'll join! My son is just about 6 months, born in April. He is my third boy. I am 24 years old, 5'4" and I currently weigh 150 lbs. I want to lose 20 to reach pre-pregnancy weight, then another 5-10 to reach my "ultimate" goal weight. Since Ben was born I lost 20 lbs in the first two weeks (10 of that was him, the rest was probably water) but I have only lost 5 since then. It's been very frustrating but I am having my thyroid tested tomorrow because besides not losing weight, I am also very tired and my periods are extremely wacky.

Do you exercise at all? I really like doing work out videos and I own an elliptical trainer. I haven't used it much during summer but maybe when winter comes I will.
Hi, can I add you two to my friends list?  I had my first baby in March of this year.  He just turned 6 months.  I've already lost all of my pregnancy weight thanks to CC, but I want to lose more.  I'm 27, 5'7" and 145-147.  I've been having really weird periods, too, and that never happened to me before.

Cecily
Sure you can add me Cecily. I don't know if my weird periods are from thyroid issues or because I didn't go back on birth control this time and it's trying to figure itself out. It's seriously confused right now!
I went back on the pill right away, but I'm still messed up.  My periods used to be exactly 28 days apart.  My last one was more 30-31 days, the one before was 24 days, and the one before that was 34 days.  I was so scared I could be pregnant again!  It's not funny being a week late with a tiny baby! LOL!  They don't seem to be synchronizing, so I don't know if I'll ever go back to normal, but I hope so.
hey moms!  I have a 5 1/2 month old and a 3 1/2 year old.  I too am trying to lose baby weight. I"ve managed to lose the weight I gained from my last pregnancy, but I am still hauling around the weight from my first pregnancy.  Im 4'11, 142 and 27 years old.  I'd like to lose another 22 pounds, but we'll see.  I know that I won't be 105 pounds again, but 120 sounds good to me.  My periods are off too... and the cramping is worse than it's ever been.  Almost incapacitating.  Dr gave me vicodin to help, but I can't take it when my hubby's at work.  I wouldn't be able to take care of my kids with a clear head.  I think it's a great idea to stick together and motivate each other while trying to lose our weight!
Yes cecily you can add me to your friends list.  I'm glad I've had some responses.   I actually gained a lot of my weight during my divorce a couple years ago and didn't lose it, and then after remarrying, I was pregnant right away and only added more weight...so this is the most I've ever weighed in my life.

And exercising is difficult for me to fit into my busy schedule but I plan to.  I do have a few videos but we have a small house with 6 people and one TV that I can use, but besides working all day, taking care of my baby, I run my teenager girls to their activities, dinner, and cleaning up around the house and I'm about maxed out for time, just enough time to get 6 hrs sleep and do it again.  But I'm commited to fitting some form or another of exercise.  I'll update everyone on my progress in that area (like I said, I need others to help me be accountable).
christianrock- with all the running around, you ARE burning a lot of calories!  Have you tried using the activity log on this site?  I use it everyday.  I was amazed by how many calories I burned just doing "mom" stuff!  some days I burn more than if I had worked out!
hi new moms! I too had a baby this past year, she will be six months old tomorrow! How fast that has gone by! This is my first baby. Prior to getting pregnant, I had weight to lose, and although most women try to get fit before getting pregnant for all the right reasons, I just couldn't bring myself to do that. I know it sounds crazy. But I knew how hard it would be to lose the weight, and I didn't want to do it twice. Once before the baby, and then again after the baby. So here I am, 5'8, 27, and 224. I've lost 16 pounds since July 31st, and feeling pretty good about it. I would love to be in touch with you other new moms...ok if I add you all as friends?  I actually didn't gain very much weight during my pregnancy becase the first three months I was so sick that I lost 20 pounds. My doctor kept a close watch and everything was ok, but I'm sure you can all relate how icky those first few months are. So thankfully, I'm not dealing with pregnancy weight, just the weight I've always had. I'm just trying to lose it with my new role as a mom and also trying to figure out how my body works again after having had a baby. I'm so glad this thread got started! :)
Hi beck25!  Yes, please add me as a friend, and I will add you as well.  Seems like there are several of us 27-year-olds. :)  I also had weight to lose prior to getting pregnant.  Thankfully, I'm back to where I started with that, so I don't have a lot of extra to lose.  I'd still like to lose another 10, though.  We can do this!
beck, you can add me as a friend and can I add everyone to my friends list?

I gained about 25-30 lbs when I was going through a divorce and had planned to take it off before my wedding and getting remarried, but never did.  Then, we had our wonderful wedding present, I became pregnant my wedding weekend.  So now with a new baby, I even have more to lose.  I'm glad you have joined with us!

I have found one exercise commitment, yippee.  In the past, I've taken adult jazz classes at my daughters dance school but just don't have the extra night to go this year...so the dance school teacher said I can take the teen hip-hop class with my daughters since it's a convenient time for me.  Hey, I'm the same height or shorter than most of them!

Hi everybody

I just had my first child 2 months ago and I am very depressed about my body. It is very loose. and I am trying to loss wieght and thighten my muscles and skin. I am only 23, 5'3 and 175 lbs. I have never been this heavy. But I have been eating healthy and i feel like I have more energy. But i need an excercise program to help me. I also need good healthy recipes. If anyone has any recipes or workout program they will like to share i would be greatful.
Hi everyone!  My name is Missy.  I am 27.  I have a 6 year old daughter and a 5 month old.  I'm 5'2 and currently weigh 157.  I started this site in July weighing 173.  I'm looking to lose another 30 pounds.  I gained most of my baby weight with the first one, a whopping 50 pounds and had never really lost it in the following 6 years and then got pregnant again!  Eeek!  I love this site.  When I first started it seemed like my goals were so far away but now that it's been 3 months and I've lost 16 pounds it seems like just yesterday.  I've also started exercising more.  It's been hard to make it outside with the baby but I like to go for walks.  I also lift free weights here at home to tone my arms and I've started to do situps and pushups.  I hope that you all find success here.  Having babies is so hard on the body!  If you ever have any questions or need support, I'm here ALL THE TIME!! LOL :D  And congratulations to all of you for your new bundles of joy!  Feel free to add me as a friend, I'll add you right back.  Those of you looking for healthy recipes, there is a thread here where people share recipes.  I also like the sites hungry-girl.com (GREAT tips & info) and allrecipes.com.  ~Missy
sinderella, I am trying to use the activity log because I do go nonstop so I was amazed at how much I am burning.  I haven't been eating well until now.  Between returning to work and dealing with some food allergy issues, I just didn't have the mindset to start healthy eating too, until now.  I love the food log though because I do best eating healthy when I keep track of all I eat and C-C makes it so easy.
benjmum,

when's ben's birthday?  I have one boy on April 9th and the lastest on April 14th... I guess july is a romantic month for my hubby and I! LOL.

Christianrock,

I love all the logs here, and the best part of the food log is that it grades you.  I've always been a top student, and now I know how i'm eatting!  If I see I'm low in fiber, or anything else, I can fix it.  I'm amazed by how conscience I am about what goes in my nouth... I wish I could say the same for Aiden, my 5, almost 6, month old!  Heck even my 3 year old will find some interesting things to shove in his mouth!
Sinderella9111, my son was due on April 5, but he showed up March 25.  July must be a romantic month!
LOL maybe it's the heat of July! Who knows, our anniversary is in 6 days, and you would think....
goal120, I was 22 when I had my first children (twins), and weighed 165 afterward at 5'1.  One of the great things back then was that I was able to take them in the stroller and go for walks...now it's a little harder with my new baby because I'm running around my older kids.  But it really helped me a lot to walk, and my babies (now 14) always enjoyed being outside and looking at everything once they started getting a little older.  I didn't walk slowly either, I tried to keep a good pace and choosing routes that had some hills so I'd get a workout pushing the stoller...I worked slowly up to a 5 times a week workout, for 1 to 1 1/2 hour walks. (Boy I wish I could fit that in now!)
I take my son on walks almost every night.  I try to walk 3 miles or more.  The problem I'm having now is that I don't get home from work until 6pm, eat dinner, then walk.  Cole has to have a bath by 7:30 so he can be in bed by 8pm.  That doesn't give me enough time to walk!  And if dinners not ready when I get home, forget it!  It was easier when he was going to bed at 9.  Within the past few weeks he's been getting really tired by 8, and if he's not in bed by then he'll stay up for hours screaming.  The more tired he gets, the harder it is to get him to bed.  I've had to resort to workout DVDs after he goes to bed.
Hi everyone!  I had my second child in January, she's 8.5 months now, and I also have a almost 3 year old boy.  I'm 24 and 178 lbs.  I gained about 20 with my first child, never lost it.  I only gained about 13 with my daughter, and lost it all ~ thanks from me to CC too!  I want to get down to about 165 in the end.
Hi to all the newcomers! Sinderella, Ben was born April 10. I should put pics of him in my pictures if you want to see him. He's just started sitting by himself. Yes, he was concieved in July. I was actually due March 25 with him but I went 16 days overdue!! It was awful! And had to be induced yet!

Anyhoo, I'm having all sorts of issues with my periods and hormones and stuff. I had my thyroid tested today too, so the whole eating and exercising is sort of on the back burner for me right now. I really think though, that if my hormones would sort out I would drop about 10-15 lbs without much effort. I think they are what is keeping the weight on for me.

Everyone can add me to their friends lists, and I will do the same if you all don't mind!
