I just wanted to share a little technique that has been extremely helpful to me. I went overboard during thanksgiving holiday and only recovered my healthy eating until recently. So this is for anyone that 1) needs a jumpstart during the holidays or 2) could use anytime motivation to stay on track!

Well what's the technique..?? Advertise TO YOURSELF!

Words and pictures are very powerful things. We see a fast food commercial, and we are suddenly hungry for that food. We hear an ad on the radio, and now we crave all day. But you can use this suggestive power to your advantage.

You can use yummy looking pictures in the exact same way, but it takes less effort to begin with just words. Try a list. Make a delicious sounding "menu" for yourself of your typical healthy foods and try to sell them up as much as possible. I make a breakfast list, lunch/dinner list, and snack list (but I can still eat breakfast for dinner as much as I want!) The goal is to remind you of everything that you like about eating your lower calorie foods when you are being tempted by something else. For example:

  • Hot and fluffy egg beater omelet covered in gooey cheese with spicy onions, savory olives, tangy red pepper
  • Juicy crisp red apple
  • Fresh garden greens with sweet tomatoes and roasted chicken, drizzled with creamy ranch dressing
  • Sweet and savory oatmeal with a snap of cinnamon spice

So..you get the idea. Aaand it may sound and look silly but it works. It works even better with pictures but I'm usually too lazy for that. So good luck and I hope this helps a few people. ^^

Well it made ME hungry! :)

That's a really great idea!

I get so annoyed everytime I see a fast food commercial because it makes me hungry, so I could see how this could be really helpful.
