Anyone want to join me for Power 90 motivation?

Hi Lsam,

I am going to start mine on the 14th (Mon). I just got the package and am sitting and watching the DVDs to figure out if I can manage the phase one and two part. Most exercises look do able till the AB routine, I can do crunches but not at the quick pace that they shift from one form to the next.

How did your Day 1 go?

Alex

It went great. I am sore, but Tony tells you that if you cant go at thier pace, then go at your own pace is fine.  Let me know how it goes for ya!

So how is the Power 90 going?

Lsam,

Today is the second day and you are right, I can't keep up with their pace, but I did complete about 80% of their exercise and reps. I made a mistake on the first day, I felt too over confident and did about 15 minutes on the treadmill to warm up, figuring that I will raise my heart rate. I suffered through the last 10 minutes of the cardio section and died at the crunches section :)

I did notice though, that I tend to burn more calories at this than the treadmill. (i.e. 30 mins of slow jog/fast walk ~300 cal vs. 25 mins of P90 = ~425 cals)

I did the sculpt today and could not complete about 30% of the exercises. I did the first two subsections, but the third section killed me and I fumbled through it.

Oh, I also started on the diet and am feeling hungry most of the time (the good thing though is that, I am not feeling weak).

I too am very sore, but it feels good. I figure it will take me a few weeks to get to all their exercises in the correct form and feel comfortable.

How are things going at your end?

Alex.

Is this the same as P90X?

Ajpaul,

Going good, just hard to make yourself workout everyday.  How is the eating plan?  I am not following it, just my own healthy eating regime.

Almost; it is the first verion (easier than P90X).

Hi, I'm doing Power 90, too.  This is my 10th day (including the rest day) and I've been making steady progress.  I can really feel a difference when I move around.  I've been on my own diet as well, and take multi vitamins, fish oil (for soreness) and protein shakes.

Let's keep at it and make it to 90 days!

I am not following their meal plan, but I am following plan that cuts my calorie intake to about 1600 - 1700 calories a day. It seems to be working. I feel hungry now and I either drink a banana/skimmed milk shake or eat half an apple.

Overlord, does fish oil help in the soreness? I am sore in places that I never knew would hurt. the good thing is that while I am following the exercises, the soreness goes away, but returns after sometime.

You all have a good day

Yes, I take it 3x a day and it's reduced my soreness to almost zero, I feel fine all day after my workouts.

Hey guys! Can I join you? I was reading through this thread a few days ago and got inspired. I plan to start in the next few days. I got the P90 program from a friend who never used it and I have a few questions because I don't know a whole lot about it...

How is it going so far? Have you guys noticed any change yet?

I want to make sure I have everything I need.. This is what I have:

  • Ab Ripper 100
  • Ab Ripper 200
  • Sculpt 1-2
  • Sculpt 3-4
  • Sweat 1-2
  • Sweat 3-4
  • Fat Burner Express
  • Diet Guide
  • Results (video)
  • Workout Manager

Is there anything I'm missing? Also, are there any weights or accessories required to do the videos?

Is there anything you guys recommend before I start the program?

Hope I'm not a pain. Thanks!!

Hi, great that you're planning on doing the workout, too.  It looks like you have everything.  Either weights or resistance bands are required for the sculpt portion of the program.  Bands are of course the cheapest way to go, but if you go the weights route, adjustable weights are the most cost- and space-effective choice.  Since you're female, you probably won't go over 24 lbs so I recommend the Powerblock Sport 2.4 weights at $149 for a pair.  You may also want an exercise mat for the ab workouts.

You don't need to really do anything to prepare for the program, just take it easy in the beginning and don't push yourself too hard.  Concentrate on form in the sculpt session before you really start lifting heavy.

One of the things I don't like about the program is the power yoga at the beginning of the cardio sessions, I don't understand the reasoning for having you do what's essentially a strength workout on a cardio day when you're supposed to be recovering from the strength session you had the day before, so I skip it.  I also prefer to do my own stretching instead.

One big thing... the heavy pants lifts at the beginning of the sculpt session... I don't go down to my ankles anymore.  It just put too much pressure on my back and made me prone to lifting with the back like Tony does and I know I will hurt my back if I keep doing it that way.  Now I go down only to just below my knees like the other two do.  I think that's better form and Tony's way of going down all the way to the ankles seems wrong.

Well, that's about it.  Good luck with the program!

I will start my P90 tomorrow :)

hope we all can motivate each other

Hi all!  I sort of fell off the wagon, LOL. But beginning day one again today.  All are welcome to join in for motivation, progress, tips etc.

Also, thanks for the fish oil tip!

Lindsay

Thanks for the advice overlord 1776! That's very helpful. Good to know. I only have 5 lb weights at the moment so I will probably be investing in some bands. The 5's were good to start with though, just to get used to the workout. :)

I did day one on Saturday (9/19) but didn't get to day two yesterday.. ha! It's going to be a little bit harder than I thought to coordinate the power 90 and my 10k training, but I'll try!

Yesterday morning I went for a leisurely bike ride, did about 7 miles maybe. I had to run 4 miles for my training in the afternoon, so I definitely got the "sweat" part in.

Today is "stretch and strengthen," and I'm going to go to a Body Pump class at the gym tonight, as usual. So my plan is to do yesterday's sweat/ab ripper video before the Body Pump, and skip today's sculpt routine since I'll be "sculpting" at Body Pump. Yeesh!

It will take a few days for me to get into a new routine, but hopefully once I do it will be easy to stick with. Here's hoping!

Good luck today feinie!

I only have 5lb weights at the moment as well.  Well, I do have some bulky dumb bells in the garage but I dont' know if I want to drag those out, LOL.  Do it with the bands is very challenging and the movements are somewhat different (restricted).  Let me know how it goes.

Greetings all,

Day 8 and things are getting a wee bit easier Laughing

Overlord, the fish oil works like a charm. Lsam, I was talking to a friend who completed P90 and is now using P90X and he mentioned that 2 or even 3 days off is not really falling off the wagon... you just need to add the days off to end. Anything more and you start to lose the gain... Get back on it's all worth it at the end.

Does anybody have any advise for the pushups in the sculpting side, the 7/7/7 and the dips are killing me.

Also, I still can't complete the full routine, but every time around I am doing more and more. Right now I can finish about 85 - 90% of the exercises, but I am wreck when I am done. I did cross the 475 calorie burned this morning though.

Alex

Hello all!

Great to hear the fish oil is working.  You can increase the dosage if you need to on days you're especially sore.

I'm nearing the end of week 3 and I'm still making steady progress.  Alex, I also have trouble with my triceps -- backscratchers, kickbacks, narrow pushups, dips... all very tough for me.  But I just keep plugging away at them and in my sculpt workout today I was able to do a whopping 3 narrow push-ups!  Maybe by the end of week 7 I'll be able to do 7.  Heck if I make it to 6-1/2 that'll be the signal to switch to Sculpt 3-4. Tongue out  But I make sure to finish off the push-ups on my knees whatever push-ups I can't do off my toes.

Hope to see the rest of you continuing the program.

Vin

Vin,

I have the opposite problem, I am on day 14, and I can do the sculpting routine the 7x7x7 and the dips and all with a lot of pain but complete it. The cardio routine really kills me, by the time I get to the crunches, I am really looking for a way to escape the pain :)

I figure it will take me till day 50 before I can do both the routine in the correct form without too much of a problem.

On the other hand, my trusty calorie counter is counting up to 480 - 510 calories burned per routine a little less for cardio. My pants are feeling a bit loose, my stomach is reducing a bit. After two weeks at this with the diet, I have lost a sum total of 1 pound :( I think my body is adjusting other ways, So ... I can't complain.

Nice to see that we have a good gathering here...

You all keep working on this and keep in mind any gains and I mean any gains at the end of 90 days is a good thing right?

Regards

Alex

Well I started doing cardio workouts for about 2 weeks before I started P90 and now in week 4, which is basically the equivalent of week 6 for cardio, I can now finish the cardio without too much trouble, which is just about halfway through the 90 days.  Just keep making steady progress and you should be finishing the cardio without too much trouble in a few weeks.

I have been stalling on the scale, too, I haven't lost any weight in the past 2 weeks but it's pretty obvious that I look a lot better than I did even 2 weeks ago.  I've ordered bodyfat calipers and myotape for a better way to measure my progress.

So anyone else making progress? Lindsay? delaney86? feinie?  Or is it just us 2 guys left?
