Power walking

Quote  |  Reply

Does anyone know how many additional calories are burned if lunge walking is incorporated into a power walk?  The routine:  I power walk 2 miles then the 3rd mile is lunge walk to failure, recovery while still walking then resume lunge walking. The 4th mile is regular power walking.

I have heard that doing cardio in hotter conditions burns more calories because it elevates the heart rate higher than cooler conditions- true or not true?

I wear a heartrate monitor so I know that the elevated heart rate portion is true but not sure about the rest. I am trying to stay in a 160 training zone which is extremely easy when training in 90 degree weather- but am I getting the benefits of the workout when my heartrate is in the zone but I am not working as hard as I used to?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I was wondering that too! Although todayyy is a bit cooler than yesterday, I'm sure the hideously hot days will return.

Any answer would be appreciated by me as well!

thanks :-)

 Hi rnjt

Yes, you will look different LOL... It's hard for me to explain. Google lunge walking and you will get a ton of how to's with video. For me, this is the quickest way to incredible legs. Works your glutes, quads, hamstrings and calf muscles. The first time you do them, I guarantee you will be extra sore the next day but DONT GIVE UP. Give yourself a couple days rest, then get back at it. You can do them in the gym as well with dumbbells.

Power walking is different than going for a walk. Shorter, faster steps focusing on heel to toe movement. Use your arms as if you were pulling yourself forward with a rope. It is reeeaaally easy to get to 160 when you walk like that...LOL- especially if it is 90 degrees with 70% humidity.

ok, actually my friend used to make me do that when i exercised with her, but that was in the gym. don't think ill be doing that on my walk to & fro work. i some times bump into people i know. might try doing it again in the gym.
