Power 90, Power 90X, 10 Minute Trainer - Time to start one of these programs...

Quote  |  Reply

OK...so years ago I went out and bought the Power 90 program.  Started it...loved it...stopped it for no apparent reason that I can think of...

Then...went out and bought the 10 Minute Trainer program because I figured that I was not doing the Power 90 program because of lack of time...so 10 Minute Trainer would be great for me!!!  Well...never started it.

Now I have a copy of P90X...and have not started it either!!!  What am I going to need to get motivated???

I am a 37 year old married father of a 3 year old boy with another child on the way...and am getting worried about my health.

My co-workers have started a "biggest loser" contest here...for which I signed up for.  It started 1 week ago today...(my weigh in was 252lbs) and we weigh in every week.  Today I weighed in at 254lbs!!  Am I surprised???  Not at all!!!  You actually have to do something...to see a change!!!

So...here I am...realizing...that I need to do something.  Tonight...I pull out the Power 90 program and get started on changing my life...  Tomorrow morning is day 1 of my fitness revolution!!!!  Well...at least I hope it is...

I have never posted anything before on any sort of site...but...maybe this will make me work at it and stick with it...

This site is great.  It helped me to lose 80 lbs. since March of last year but you do have to stick with it and be honest with yourself about what you are eating and how much exercise you do.  Be committed to it.  You and your family are worth it!  Lots of luck to you!

Just don't try to to it all at once.  Try to make a small change each week -- this week it could be something like: "exercise at least 4 days this week -- even it's just 10 minutes".  Make small changes and stick to them.  After a while they become habits.

Make better food choices, and move more.  Take the three year old  to the park and climb on equipment with him, or do a workout video and let him exercise with you.  Or use him as  "weight".  I love to pick up my granddaughter and at 25-30 pounds she makes a great "weight" to lift for a while.

P90X is really intense, so try to take it easy at first.  Don't overdo it and get burned out!

Start with the 10-minute trainer, do it once, and give yourself a high-five for being ten minutes healthier and having taken that first step.

Don't look too far ahead, just take that first step. And then the next one, and the next one.

Everything you do is just one step.

And it's either a step towards your goal, or a step away from it, so all you have to do is think "does this step take me closer to or away from my goal?", and then choose to take the step or not.

You may stumble or step sideways but as long as you're mostly headed for where you want to go, you'll get there eventually.

I agree with melkor, start with small steps. If you like Tony, and want to move up to P90X, do P90 for at least a month or two before moving up to P90X.  The X isn't for beginners, but when you're ready, you're body will be transformed in 90 days!

Good luck with your fitness goals!  Send me a message if you have any questions about P90 or Ten Minute Trainer.

Why not set a goal, like a bike or run race this summer? That might help.

I often play mental tricks on myself to get me going - I'll tell myself that I'll get on the treadmill and just walk, and if I feel like running, I'll run. I always end up running once I've warmed up. I don't often work out with DVD's but maybe you could turn it on and tell yourself that if you just end up sitting and watching it that'd be ok, but that it's going to play the full course. You'll surprise yourself with getting up and doing something when you didn't think you felt like it.

Also, after you're done and you're feeling good be sure to anchor that feeling into your memory. I do this simply by telling my bf how great I feel and that next time I say I don't have the energy for a work out to remind me of that day.

Good luck!

Thank you all for the thoughts and insight into getting started and getting motivated.  I really appreciate the replies from everyone!

I have started...albiet slowly...but I have started.  In the last week (I got a late start on this due to some unforseen issues) I have lost 8 lbs.  I am excited about the loss...and very happy to have seen some results!!!  I am hopefull that it will motivate me even more to continue on with this...and acheive the goals that I am setting for my self!!!

Thanks again everyone...

Congratulations on the 8lbs loss!  That's awesome.

Are you doing the P90X program?  I also own it and haven't started it yet but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

Not yet.  I have it...but have not started it.  I am working with the 10 min trainer first, and then to Power 90 then to P90X.
