Chriss,

Does your lab work list your fasting blood glucose (fbg) or an A1C (hgA1c)?  Those numbers are the ones that really let you know how your blood sugar is and how close to actual diabetes you are.

I?m surprised that your doctor gave you a 1400 calorie diet ? most now understand that a diabetic meal plan is very individual.  Focusing on low or no sugar doesn?t really work well, either.  A lot of the low or no sugar foods have MORE carbs than the ?bad? food they?re supposed to replace.  It?s the carbs you need to look at, not the sugar.

How low carb are you attempting?  Did the dietician give you carb suggestions for meals?  The standard is usually 45g for three meals and 15-20g for three snacks.  The American Diabetes Association recommends at least 130g of carbs each day? if you?re trying to go lower, no wonder you?re frustrated.  I have around 170g each day ? less at breakfast, more at dinner ? because that?s what my home testing has shown my body can handle.

It?s great that you?re exercising 3-4 days a week.  To control blood sugar, we usually need to exercise every day.  Thirty minutes of exercise is usually enough ? and you still get the benefits if it?s broken down into 10 or 15 minute chunks.  Gentle exercise when you?re really thirsty will help bring your glucose levels down ? along with the water.  Don?t exercise strenuously during that time, your glucose level can go UP with strenuous exercise, the opposite of what you want.

A great book is by Gretchen Becker called Prediabetes:  What You Need to Know to Keep Diabetes Away.

It is possible to control this disease with diet and exercise.  I?ve been able to keep my blood sugars in non-diabetic numbers for the past three months.  It does get better ? and you learn how to ?tweak? things so you don?t feel deprived.

Good luck and feel free to e-mail me.

Lisa
Thanks yes I can only have 135 carbs a day. I had a GTT lab draw and I went down to 48 at the last draw/ That is what caused the Diagnosis. Thank you again. My fasting was 88 though good I know
Thanks Chriss
That's a really low carb level.  The American Diabetes Association has 130g as the minimum level for all day.

I hope someone is at that level and can help you.  I'm currently having 170g per day.
