I have prediabetes. What can I eat?

Type 2 diabetes runs in my family. At 64 I was just told mine is borderline. How can I loose weight and watch carbs? I don't know how many carbs I should have per day. I am trying to stick to a 1,200 calorie diet myself just counting the calories. How can I get my fruit but no carbs. I am confused as what to eat.

People with diabetes and prediabetes can eat carbohydrates - but in a controlled way.  You, personally, should aim for 1400 calories with about 150 grams of carbohydrate spread evenly throughout the day.  For instance, eat 50g from breakfast to lunch, 50g at lunch through dinner, and 50g for dinner until bedtime depending on whether you prefer three or more meals a day.  Physical activity is also important because exercise moves sugar from the bloodstream into the cell where it is burned.  Research shows that exercise is extremely effective for reversing prediabetes.  Read about more about reversing prediabetes in the Advice section at Calorie Count.
