I'm not quite sure if weightloss is the best place for this, but I thought it seemed like it fit with my options.
FIRST- no I'm not wanting to lose weight while pregnant, before anyone slams me....
But, this is my fourth pregnancy. With the first 3, I gained about 45 lbs, but then had 10 lbs left with each of them. After Baby #3, I started calorie-count and lost 20 lbs! So I'm only about 10 lbs heavier than I was before I had Baby #1. (I'm 150 now.) I'll be going to my OB in 2 weeks and will sit down and discuss this further, but I would like to stay between 25-30 lbs gained total (as long as everything is healthy with the baby).
Has anyone had a successful weight gain with their pregnancy? I'd love some tips.

*pulls out her kick butt bag, oh shucks....puts it back away*
I have actually lost weight with everyone of my preg. Why? Because I had the best eating habits I have ever had in my life. AND no drinking of Whiskey.
My advice is to just make sure you are eating healthy foods not a lot of junk, processed foods. They aren't good for either of you.
Have the cravings set in yet?

No cravings yet. Thank God, but I'm nauseous and tired (I do have three young kids out of the womb!). So, when I'm tired, I tend to eat to help that out....
I have a question. On the one page, it says acc. to my weight and activity level, I should consume about 1800 calories to maintain, but when I go to my log, it says 2023 (or some other odd number really close to that). Which should I use the 1800 or 2000??? Or maybe something in between for now?

There is a problem with the calculator. Go under advice and figure out what you should have and then enter it in manually under your account.

Here is some interesting information if you want to read through it.
Found this too:
During pregnancy, your basal metabolic rate (BMR, or the number of calories you use each day) will increase, and you'll need more calories to support the extra work needed for fetal development. During the first trimester, most women usually don't need to increase their usual daily intake of calories (i.e., 1,800 to 2,000 calories) unless they need to compensate for starting a pregnancy underweight. But even if extra calories aren't consumed in the first trimester, you should still make balanced nutrition part of your daily wellness plan.
During the second and third trimesters, you will need an extra 200 to 300 calories each day. But that doesn't mean feeling uncomfortably full: for example, just one piece of toast and a banana can supply those extra calories.

I've only had one baby but plan on having one more in the next few years. I learned one major thing after having gained 50 pounds with my child...I know pg women get so tired but don't let that stop you from MOVING. I ate healthy most of the time but I stopped exercising in any form. With my next one I will definitely keep a healthy exercise regime up.
Congratulations and a Healthy and Happy 9 months to you!

But the best source of information for you is going to be your doctor.
Good luck :)
Good luck :)
I gained 34 pounds with mine, which is what my doctor expected for me. I ate healthy stuff every couple of hours. For breakfast I'd have a bowl of oatmeal. Then, two hours or so later, I'd have something like a cup of yogurt or a granola bar, then lunch, more snacks, and finally, dinner (and maybe more snacks). I just made sure I snacked often and tried to avoid junk food. I was also walking in the evenings. I was lucky, I never had any cravings and no nausea. Well, the only time I felt sick was if I hadn't had a snack by 9am. As long as I ate at 8am and again before 9 I was fine. There was only one day I didn't eat on time. Luckily I was at home and close to the bathroom!
Congratulations and good luck to you!

I had a very successful, healthy pregnancy - gained 30 pounds which I lost by the 10th day post partum.
What did I do? I realized that all I needed for extra calories was about 200-300 calories per day, and since I typically drank only one glass of milk a day...the rest of the calories should be skim milk. I did not eat sweets or pastry, I substituted fresh fruit for them. I ate a banana a day, drank lots of water with lemon or lime juice, some fruit juices, had reasonable portions of meat and veggies.
I exercised - doing some floor exercises and walked a lot. I basicly lived well and got plenty of rest.
I watched coworkers who were also pregnant eat candy bars and doughnuts - saying "the baby's hungry." But I chose to think carefully about what would nourish my baby - and it worked well.

My biggest pitfall is I LOVE LOVE LOVE Coca-Cola. I know it's HORRIBLE for you. I've tried Diet, I've tried Coke Zero. It's not the same....
I REALLY need to work on that. :-( That's a very sad thing....

Can you try drinking some herb tea? Maybe some iced herb tea? All that sugar is probably half of your problem if you could just give it up you'd notice a big difference.
Good luck. Please eat healthy for you and baby. In nine months you can start losing weight again. It's not that long when you think about it and fast forward. I know it's long when you are going through it though.

I ate like a horse with my first pregnancy...gained 47 pounds. Most of it in the 3rd trimester...not recommended.
Second pregnancy I kept myself aware that I did not need to eat a small farm animal.....(p.s. with this pregnancy I was already 202 when I started) so I only gained 15 pounds. Ate healthy the whole time. My only pitfall was that I had to drink Pepsi. Couldnt give it up. That craving passed after I had the baby.
So what I am telling you is to eat healthy. That should take care of it. (As in not a whole sub/hoagie in one sitting like I did with my first)
