I am only 5 weeks along, which I know, I know, maybe I shouldnt be telling everyone but, this is also the best way for me to vent and feel better.
I feel like crap.... Now that, that is out I also feel like if I lose weight im hurting my baby and if I gain weight I am hurting myself... I do know that women that are overweight should only gain 15-20 and gain most in the last trimester it just scares me to gain to much....
I have been counting calories but I was leaning more towards 1600 daily rather than what I had been doing which was 1200-1400 calories...
I have also had this queeziness and been taking different vitamins to help with that, that the doctor recommended... Its crazy what your body does during pregnancy....
I guess I feel stuck, even though I count calories I dont really know if what I am doing is good or harmful...
sorry for any confusion.. Just my thoughts right now.....
First Congratulations!
Second go to your doctor and talk to him about how many calories you should be eating during your pregnancy. During the first trimester they don't worry about you losing weight because lots of women do (morning sickness and such). Also, don't worry about gaining the recommended 15-20 lbs that come with baby most of it will disappear within weeks of the baby being born. Here's a breakdown of where that weight is going
Also, breastfeeding will help you to lose after baby is born because s/he is helping take away calories.
I have heard that about breast feeding, although at this point.... I am not certain I will breast feed... I was young dumb and stupid once and pierced my nipples so, I am not sure I cant... Also, I am a 44DDD and I REALLY dont need the extra weight there... (I know a little selffish but my bad ALWAYS hurts).
I see my doctor at 7 weeks which is not to far away and that will be something I bring up... Thanks!
Ellen
I understand about the already being heavy up top, I'm a 42DDD. The benefit to that is that you gain almost nothing in the chest department :-) I'm telling you this because I want to urge you to try breastfeeding for the first 2-6 weeks...you'll be resting most of the time anyways and it's the most important time for the baby to get your nutrients...if you don't like it after that give it up and go to formula. I only breastfed for 3 months because it just wasn't practical while waitressing. It really is your choice and I won't say anymore after this but you can always go from breast to bottle feeding but it's almost impossible to go from bottle to breast. Just keep an open mind.
Thank you, I didnt know that.... Not only is CC helping with the weight loss but helping with my everyday life and the new things that happen in it... Thanks!
Congratulations!!! I was overweight when I had all three of my kids. Talk to your doctor. Mine encouraged me to eat healthy, and really not to try to lose weight while pregnant, and to walk a lot. Walking was good because it is easy and didn't stress the joints that will get a loose as your pregnancy progresses.
I had to look this up, but I gained 12 pounds when I had my first, 40 pounds when I had my second (!) and only gained 4 pounds when I had my youngest. And she was a whopping fat overdue baby. I always knew she was growing, my tummy was huge, but my thighs got smaller.
Ask to talk to a Registered Dietican, she can help you set up some health guidelines. Everyone wants you to have a healthy baby and we don't want you stressing through your entire pregnancy.
it gets better, the first few months I always felt yicky, the middle months I was glowing, towards the end it got a little uncomfortable and when the baby kicked all night and kept me awake, I always figured it was better than the crying that would keep me awake after delivery!
yaaaaaaa congratulations!!!! A baby :D yea, a dietician is a great idea, if anything your doctor can advice you on how many calories to eat each month - it wouldn't hurt to bring in your food log also, so they know what you have been doing.
Being overweight increases your chances of gestational diabetes, but yet, some overweight women dont have an issue and toothpick skinny women have to take insulin. Last I knew, doctors only start checking blood glucose levels around 30/32 weeks, I don't know why they don't do a finger stick every appointment - personally, I would suggest it. A simple finger stick every appoint will let you know if your numbers are getting too high... which can lead to very big (c-section needed) babies.
Do you think you will find out the babies sex? At my lamaze classes we were the only ones out of like 14 other couples that didn't find out. so when we were asked, what are you having, I had to say, "A baby!" everyone thought we were nuts lol!
Congrats again and keep us updated :)
