Pregnant, fat, and hungry!

Quote  |  Reply
I am 8 months pregnant, started at a healthy weight, but my Dr. told me I have already put on too much weight and to try and not gain a whole lot in the next 8 weeks. I have gained 40 pounds and I have 8 weeks to go! Problem is, I have NO idea how many calories I should be eating. I am hungry all the time but I have realized through this site that I already eat close to 2000 quality calories/ day. I'm trying to take it easy but I'm not really sure what that means exactly?? Don't put on any more weight? Lose weight? Less calories? Don't worry about it? Eat when I'm hungry??

You should call your doctor back and ask him/her these questions.  And your objective definitaley shoud not be weight loss.  I would say probably maintenance, but you need to talk to your Dr.

Your doctor is crazy. Everyone gains differently & nobody should be told not to gain weight unless they are morbidly obese. I started @ 120, gained 80lbs pregnant & was back down to 118 16 weeks postpartum.

Eat when you're hungry. Have faith that your body is telling you what's best for your baby.

My first doctor stopped me at fifty with my first baby -- he was concerned about gestational diabetes and Preeclampsia. It was hard, but I was careful and I did it. I never had any problems. My next doctor (we moved) said, "Eat what you want." I gained seventy with the second child, it was harder to take off than the first (never did), and I got high blood pressure at the end and had to be on bed rest for two weeks. Now I'm pregnant with the third, and I'm watching my weight!! I'd love to be able to eat when I'm hungry, but my hunger is always there and not always a good indicator!!

I would say definitely consult either your Dr. or another health care practitioner {maybe a midwife or a doula and/or a nutritionist?} regarding how many calories you "should" have per day...

That said...fresh fruit & raw {washed} veggies are always a safe bet if you need something to much on...or sip some {caffene free} herbal tea and give yourself a little time to relax...you deserve it :)
I just wanted to stop back in to this thread to say congratulations on your pregnanacy : )

I read in your post about periods how you struggled with infertility and this is your "miracle child." That is so fantastic and you must be ecstatic.  I agree with the person above that said listen to your body.  You tried for a long time for this little miracle and you don;t want to do anyhting to jeapardize him/her.  Your body & your miracle baby may need more food and you may gain a little more than recommended - who cares as long as everyone is healthy.

CONGRATS AGAIN & GOOD LUCK!

Girl, eat and worry about losing the weight when your baby comes into the world healthy.  What good will you be to carry this baby if you're weak from not eating enough?  Your body is telling you to eat because your baby is growing and needs a lot of the calories you're consuming.  Congrats!!

I went from 120 to 190 with my daughter. As long as your doc ist testing u and no diabetes and all those other bad stuff then your ok. Just eat Alot more healthier than u r, if your not already.

Eat. Just ya know subsitute the Mcdonalds for something healthier like chicken breast and rice and salad. Get the idea sweetie. Good luck with the baby!! :)
Hear, hear!  (sh.. doctors don't always know much about nutrition.. shh).. I think your doctor's just worried about your health and the risks stated above, but at 8 months it's kinda late to be curbing your eating habits!!! that baby's hungry!  it'll all fall off when you have a few months to recover.  I wish you well with your delivery.  Cheers!
