The pregnant man is happy to be pregnant again.

That's nice I guess. But I am sorry, this person is not physically a "man"...if you have eggs, a uterus and you are still using them...you are biologically a female and doing those female things. I am kind of annoyed that they are sensationalizing this...like they are breaking all barriers or something. In reality, I could be a "pregnant man" too if I cut off my breasts, took enough hormones and grew a beard.
Call it what it is...a trans-gender female (male) who wants to be a man, but who still wants to utilize her/his female goodies for reproduction.
It's all so confusing.
Personally, I agree with you. While they identify as a man, physically, they are not. I think this person is just trying to grab for more publicity. It's nothing spectacular, it's like a really, really masculine woman having a child. Physically, they have the bit and pieces to do it, so their sex is female, even thought they 'want' to be a man.
Who cares? give me a REAL man who is pregnant, THEN I will be impressed. Right now that person just needs to shut it and pick what they want to be, don't half-ass it.
Why is Barbra Walters dignifying this with an interview anyhow? There are far more interesting and uplifting stories in the world. My opinion of course. Some people might find this fascinating.
Im happy for them. They seem like good parents.
There are a lot of loopholes built into our gender system. Not everyone is born into a neat, perfect category. A small percent of babies are born with ambiguous genitalia - between male and female. People have different hormone levels or they may feel they were born into the wrong gender. Etc.
People react with shock and disgust to stories like this because it freaks them out to realize that things arent as black and white as our culture teaches us.
Gender identity has as much to do with how people present themselves - and this guy chooses to present himself as a man - than with what's going on in their pants. The pregnant man isnt doing anything groundbreaking or revolutionary, but his story is worth noting because he is an example of our definitions of gender not reflecting reality.
yep delete the thread cuz you want to delete the premise. nice.
"real" or not, he is now identified as male. and if you look into it, its really not a "choice" anymore than being female and the things inherent with being a female are a choice for you. it is a biological mechanism.
learning. it is your friend.

Um...he has a vagina, ovaries and is popping out infants. I do not think I have read anywhere that he has a penis.
I guess I can just say I am a man, and then I become one. Right?
AND....I never said that SHE couldn't feel like a man on the inside..but the outside plumbing is still of a female nature. And the media is making like..wow...this MAN is having BABIES...
I suppose if a man dresses in drag, grows breasts, calls himself a woman...and impregnates someone, that will be a first time a WOMAN actually impregnated someone.
You seem a bit confused as to what I am talking about..."learn"..get off it....
I thought he did get the sex change down below to be completely a man? I just heard that he kept the ovaries and that is how he's been able to reproduce. I could be wrong though, but I also heard that he had his first child by C-section...so that made me think that he did get down below changed. It's all confusing really. Congrats to the happy couple though. :)
He didn't get the full sex-change. I believe he's only had top surgery.
Monarch - It seems like you think the pregnant "man" cant be a man because de doesnt have a penis.
Is Christina Applegate no longer a woman because she had a double mastectomy? Are all of the women who have had hysterectomies no longer women? Is John Bobbitt no longer a man?
You agree that people can lose their reproductive organs and still identify themselves as male or female, right?
A little tangent:
Women who attend womens' colleges that subsequently decide to become men should be asked to leave such colleges. Otherwise, let us other men in as well. :D
Gotta agree with what azirra, drea and alibsam said. Nicely put, folks!
I'll repost since my other was deleted...
No one is confused about what you're talking about. You made a thread about this last time he was pregnant. We get it. You don't like him. Congratulations.
Being a transexual and dressing in drag are two different things.
If a transgendered person wishes to present as male but still keep and utilize their female reproduction organs, why should it matter so long as they're a good parent?Gender doesn't need to be so rigid.
I have no problem with transgenders/transexuals/drag queen/whatever. I don't care if he wants to pop out an entire litter of children (well, aside from the whole overpopulation selfish thing). I still think that the whole thing reeks of "15 minutes of fame". It's all very Jerry Springer imo.
The point she is making (I believe) is that it really is nothing 'special' because it is not a person born male that is having babies...if this was a real life Junior, then yes, it would be amazing and worthy of so much media. But this is a person born with the female parts to grow and birth a baby, regardless of what s/he looks like on the outside and feels like on the inside...it is basically a female body without breasts having a baby...s/he is mentally male, not physically. Comparing this to Christina Applegate is not the same...oh and Mr. Bobbitt is re-intact (and I believe starred in a porno).
the point is we had this conversation the first time around. anyone with an ounce of sensitivity to gender identity issues knows he's a man. he and his wife are giving interviews because they can, because they want to, and because people are interested. at least one person here is interested enough to read the press.

you were interested enough to start a thread about it.

Yeah, I wasn't really going to agree but that's a good point. Call him what he wants to be called. If he really wants to be a man then there's no reason to start a world war over the fact that he has biologically female parts. Live and let live, people... no one's asking you to be a transsexual. I've kind of become very apathetic about the whole thing, give them rights, let them do whatever... and leave it at that.
Although I agree with the 15 minutes of fame thing. Don't really see the point in someone who's convinced they want to be a man having children. I mean maybe that makes him happy, who knows, but... it's strange to me.

Actually, It does interest me. My mother had a trans-gender girlfriend who surgically became a MAN and then lied to my sister and told her she was the child of this person. Screwed her up when the truth came out when she was 16.
How would you like to be told that your father was really a woman,...and not even genetically related to you?
Ah...wonderful trans-gender lies.
Truth IS stranger than fiction.
Glad I was lucky enough to be sent to a foster home.
Please do not fool yourselves into thinking this is such a fairy tale ending. There are screwed up people here, in an equally screwed up society.
Anyone else here can identify?
yeah, we had this conversation when he was pregnant the first time.
you're contradicting yourself. in one breath you say there are more important things but concede that "some people" might be interested; in the next you make it about you.
if you need therapy, get therapy. this family is entitled to make their own decisions about reproduction and about publicity, just like the rest of us.
Monarch - Im sorry that someone decieved you and your sister, but the pregnant man and his wife seem happy, stable, loving, and totally excited to be having another baby. They are planning on eventually telling the baby the whole story. (not like they could hide it after going on Oprah!)
I think they have a really healthy outlook about the whole thing. They have nothing to hide, arent ashamed, and dont think its a big deal. They just really wanted a family and luckily one of them still has a uterus. So why not use it?
What is the diet for kidney stones?
For kidney stones, you should drink at least three to four quarts of fluid (preferably water) everyday. There are several kinds of kidney stones... Read more
