Hi everyone
I have this very disturbing problem right now. I consider myself healthy and my periods are regular. But I'm late for almost 2 cycles right now and I tried for the pregnancy test 4 times, once with a doctor and all came out negative.
I'm not saying that I might be pregnant but coincidently the time I had sex was the time when I was actually really fertile and ovulating and we didn't use any protection. But he used the withdrawal method though. And ever since then I haven't gotten my period yet and I just want to know the chances of me getting pregnant. I read through a lot of pregnancy symptoms but I don't really have sore breasts, morning sickness and such. But I do get nauseous when something smells, I have food cravings but at times I don't feel like eating, and I have a serious mood swings and fatigue problem lately. And I sometimes feel sharp pains bellow the navel and pelvis.
I don't know what to expect right now, because I'm only 21 and whatever it is, I know what to do if I happen to be pregnant. But the thing is, I really really want to know what is actually happening to me and I really need your opinions on this matter because this is my first time I ever got into this kind of situation. I don't feel satisfied with the tests and I really really need your advice. Please.
You need to go to the OBGYN...it could be a lot more serious than the scare of pregnancy. If your two cycles late and still showing negative on your preg tests then you are not pregnant. It sounds to me that something else could be going on, something else quite worrisome. You need to go to the Gyno.
The only time in my life ive had unprotected sex i became pregnant, so the probability is very high!
BUT I would be inclined to trust the pregnancy tests they are very acurate. There could be many reasons why your periods have stopped, weight loss/gain is just one of them. It may also be a medical problem so definatly go to your GP.
I take it your not on the pill? I dont get periods anymore because of the type of ill i use.
Thanks guys
But the thing is, I am quite a healthy person and I don't think it's a coincident that I just might miss my period right after I had unprotected sex with him. Well, I have a few people I know of that have the same problem as mine, even tested 7 times all came out negative, but for all they know after 3 to 4 months they are actually pregnant! And there's this sad story about my friend's sister who thought she wasn't pregnant after those negative tests, and she fell and found out that she actually had a miscarriage of a 2 months old baby. It's very disturbing to think that there are cases where some people are not able to detect anything during early pregnancy and the thought just scares me because I don't know what to expect and it kills not to know.
And I am not on the Pill actually, since I have very regular periods and that was the only time when we had unprotected sex. I want to know, do we have to have sore breasts in order to get pregnant? Do people get pregnant even if they don't have sore breasts in this early stage?
Thanks because I am so new to this and I really need your views.
it is possible that the fear and stress of thinking that you are pregnant is delaying your cycle, it is actually pretty typical and as far as symptoms are concerned there is no right or wrong answer, every women is different and every pregnancy is different. the only advice I can give you is to relax wait a little bit retake a test if you don't start and go from there.
Even with negative tests, there is STILL the possibility. My grandmother-in-law tested negative at home AND at the doctor through her entire first trimester. If I were you, I'd continue to test every week and I wouldn't wait long before making an appointment if you miss another cycle. There is always the chance of ectopic pregnancy as well which are very scary. If you're already healthy and you're planning on keeping the baby should you be pregnant, stick to the healthiest diet you can. Bascially, until it's completely ruled out, pretend you're pregnant. Hope this helped!!! =] Good luck!
Just go to a doctor or midwife and check it out!
I really hope that the stress is causing my period to be late, because I have never been this late before. I heard if you reach 5 weeks you can get an ultrasound and be able to detect the baby How much is the cost of having an ultrasound?
Thanks guys I really really appreciate your advices and keeping me company through this time.
5 weeks is really a bit early. closer to 8 weeks, you should be able to see something. They are pretty $$ if you dont' have insurance.
go for a blood test. that is more accurate and sensitive than a urine test.

5 weeks isn't early at all, you can still detect the amniotic sac and see the 'yolk'. Even though the baby hasn't become a baby you can see it. An ultrasound around here is about 100-300$. And a blood test is a good idea as well, but you should be getting positives by now if you are pregnant. Also If you haven't been on birth control normally and just took it recently it could affect your period as well. Good luck and hope you find out soon!
Some crisis pregnancy centers offer free ultrasounds for verification of pregnancy.
At the very least, until you find out for sure, you should make decisions as if you are pregnant. Just in case. So don't smoke, drink, etc, and keep yourself healthy.
However, there are a lot of reasons why you haven't had a period. Or, you could just have very low levels of the preganancy hormone that they test for. Some women have the sore breasts and morning sickness with pregnancy, or the sickness and abdominal pain could be due to some other gyne problem.
Either way, this is something that you really need to explore with your OB/GYN.
I really think that you should go ahead and see a doctor as soon as possible, even if it's just a nurse at a crisis pregnancy center or something similar. We can provide information and support, but we're certainly not qualified or able to give you a diagnosis, and it's usually a bad idea to self-diagnose.
You said you took a pregnancy test with a doctor - what happened with that? what kind of tests, and what did he/she say?
Even if you aren't pregnant, missed periods, fatigue, nausea, mood swings, and pain are problems.
And no, you don't necessarily 'have' to have sore breasts at this point.
If you have a lot of sharp pains in your abdomen, especially if they feel like bad stomach or abdominal cramps, there's a possibility that it's an ectopic pregnancy, which is where an egg has accidentally been lodged somewhere it shouldn't be, like in your fallopian tubes (between your ovaries and uterus). If that's the case, it needs to be checked out immediately, because serious complications can arise.
But here's the thing - even if it turns out to be nothing, isn't it worth getting checked out? you'll be able to stop worrying, and as far as money, now you're spending money on pregnancy tests that aren't telling you a darn thing - at least a doctor's advice will be a little more certain!
Go to a clinic near you. They'll usually do free blood tests to help detect early pregnancy. If the tests are negative and the problems persist, it's DEFINITELY time to go to a doctor.
Have you started/stopped ANY medications at all recently, or started taking any herbal supplements?
By the way, for the future - the 'withdrawal' method has not been proven to be very reliable. Actual failure rates seem to be between 15-28%. In other words, there's realistically about a one in five chance you'll get pregnant. Compare this to the Pill (2-8%) or condoms (10-18%), both of which you can get free or on a sliding scale from most clinics.
Hope some of this helped :/ I'm at the same age and I've had a few 'scares'!
Thanks guys!
Well, last night he was suggesting that we should go to the clinic and have an ultrasound. But just when I was about to get ready, I have this bleeding, kind of like a period. Usually during my first day of period I would get heavy flows but the bleeding only occurs twice for the day.
And the funny thing was, when I stopped craving for food and feeling nauseated, he starts feeling those things lately and I know it's not normal for him to have those signs. I know it's an old wives tale that when the girl doesn't get morning sickness and food cravings, the guy experiences them.
I want to know whether I am actually having a period or is there spotting or bleeding? How does pregnancy bleeding feel like? How long will it stop? Is it possible to have bleeding during the 6th week after conception? What is the difference between the bleeding and period? The symptoms I have is still the same and I read that during the 6th week of pregnancy usually you tend to lose weight and I notice that in me. I'm confused and please clarify soon!
Thanks again!
You're not going to get any clarification from a forum...you NEED to go to an OBGYN. If you are pregnant you need to think about the BABY you're carrying. Stop posting and go to an obgyn or a clinic at least. This is not the place to get the answer you're looking for. I'm sorry but you're being ridiculous. Just go. If you do have life in you, you can't be selfish right now. When I was pregnant I bleed off and on for about 3 months..light brown to pinkish color....nothing like my normal flow...my breast were never sore until the last trimester. Every pregnancy is different. You may not have the same symptoms as someone else. If your not pregnant then you need to find out if something serious is going on with you. Like someone else said, it could also be an ectopic pregnancy...please go to an OBGYN. I know your young, but your not that young, you should understand the importance of seeing an OBGYN.

depending on the person. I know many who saw nothing at 5 weeks but at 6 weeks finally saw the sac. Better to wait an additional week or two and be sure.
Er - I'd say better to NOT wait as far as the doctors visit is concerned. If it IS something bad, the longer you wait, the worse it gets.
Regardless of what else happens - even if it seems like you're having a normal period - Go. To. A. Doctor!
Come on! Pulling out is not a form of birth control! There is semen in pre-ejaculation that can get you pregnant and a guy can not tell when he is pre-ejaculating (the little amount that comes out before actual ejaculation).
My cousin used the pull out "method"... and 6 months later she was 6 months pregnant.
Do they not teach anything in sex education?? Use a condom or bc.
Actually that's not entirely correct. You're right that withdrawal has a low success rate, but there isn't viable sperm in the pre-ejaculate. Most failure occurs from incorrect usage (ie not pulling out fast enough) or there still being sperm left over from a previous ejaculation.
That's not completely true.
"A full ejaculation contains as many as 100 million sperm, whereas when sperm is in pre-ejaculate, it's more like a few million, if that many. But it only takes one active sperm and a few hundred helper sperm to create a pregnancy, so sometimes there may be more than enough sperm in pre-ejaculate when sperm are present in it to make that happen." (Sex Ed For the Real World)
As far as sperm being left over from a previous ejaculation; what man is someone having sex with who has never ejaculated before???????? Most men have, ehem, personal time with themselves at least once a day.
Look at all the women who have commented on this topic who have had or are having babies because their partner pulled out.
There is not a guarantee you will get prego if you use the pull out method, but it is a horrible excuse for bc, and really just a way for your guy to get to go bare back. Lucky him, prego you.![]()
You misunderstand me. The sperm can be carried by the pre-ejaculate, but pre-ejaculate itself does NOT contain sperm. It CAN carry the sperm that is left-over out, though, which is what that is referring to, although it does so very imprecisely. If you'll actually look above and read, I said in my first post that withdrawal isn't very effective.
A quote doesn't substitute for research, by the way.
Research report from the National Institute of Health reporting no viable sperm in Cowpers (pre-ejaculatory) fluid: http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/picrender.fc gi?artid=1440560&blobtype=pdf
Another, where the researchers were actually looking for something else and found incidentally that the only sperm contained in the samples was immobile, ie not viable: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12286905
